The ACTUAL Etch-A-Sketch Guy

Last week, one of Mitt Romney's top aides created a tempest in a tea pot when he said that after the primary, the campaign would re-set for the general election, comparing the re-set to an Etch-A-Sketch. Despite the fact that everybody knew what he meant, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and the press jumped all over the comment, bellowing, "See? Even Mitt's own campaign thinks he's got no solid principles!" Of course, the aide's comment suggested nothing of the sort, but the unfortunate toy metaphor played into an existing narrative about Romney and it hurt him, at least temporarily (although not enough to deny him the nomination, which will be his in relatively short order.)

The problem is that while everyone pounced unfairly on Romney for his aide's remark, nobody is focused on the REAL Etch-A-Sketch guy in this race: President Obama.

From the start of his political career, Obama has said one thing and done another. Or he's cleverly dressed up his actual positions while selling more moderate ones. Or he's flat-out lied about what he was doing. There is no greater Etch-A-Sketch guy than the one currently in the White House.

The latest example: this week, Obama was seated with Russian president Dmitri Medvedev. He leaned in and spoke softly to Medvedev, not realizing his words were being picked up by a hot mic. Speaking about missile defense and other contentious matters, Obama told Medvedev to tell incoming president Vladimir Putin to give him some "space" (what is this...."Sex and the City?"). And then: "This is my last election," he whispered to Dmitri. "After my election, I have more flexibility."

Medvedev replied, "I understand," and "I will transmit this information to Vladimir" and "I stand with you."

Worst Commander-in-Chief EVER!

Two points here: 1. You never tell the enemy what you will do, or what you won't. And yes, Russia is still the enemy.

2. What does he need the "flexibility" for?! For more give-away-the-store deals like the New START treaty? For continuing to ignore Russia's increasing oppression at home and provocative rogue behavior abroad?

Obama was suggesting to Medvedev that once he's re-elected, he'll have a free hand to do whatever he wants: give the Russians everything they want and weaken America even more than he already has. And he'll be doing it without the State Department, the intelligence agencies, the Pentagon or anybody else. He'll be acting unilaterally: a big-time foreign policy freelancer.

So we are to disregard everything he says between now and the election, because it's all just posturing to get re-elected. Once back in office, he'll be more....like Putin and Medvedev. He'll act completely differently.

Just like an Etch-A-Sketch.

I know you are one of the few who actually see's the political game being played- It being the reason for the slow progress of America, and a direct assault on democracy itself.

Obama was put into office with Oprah's money and hypnotized people from every race and social economic background. I'm ashamed to have thought he could back up his words. He has shown the Prestige of the office, but has not used it with a respectable work ethic. I believe his intentions may have been good, but he is naive to the needs of the people who voted him in office. His ethnic agenda was insulting from his choice of cabinet without choosing the most qualified people. The Responsibility of the office then moved to playing on the internet and avoiding the Legislation promised for transparency, reform, and regulation of corporate business rather than taxing the rich. I have come to the conclusion he was on fire while he gave speeches (improvising) and does not remember half of what he said. He made a lot of very good speeches, but could not follow through for us because he was naive enough to believe everyone would come together for him.
Obama turned out to be a huge disappointment for the World. His Casual Swagger is insulting to the integrity of the office of President and America.
I don't believe we have a single politician worthy of leading our country into the future including Obama. I believe Politics is what causes divides between people without knowing the full gamut of issues and philosophies behind respective parties. People choose a political side without knowing why other than they like or dislike a candidate or the incumbent. Most would not know what I just said.

A real leader for America will influence people to bridge differences and remove politics from the equation. A real leader would lead with discipline from him/herself avoiding frivolous behavior.
A real leader would not display weakness by showing his/her hand to a known felon of the global community.

Obama is a lesson.

The solution to Americas slow progress in Government is Reform. I won't claim to know all of the answers, but I do have a few suggestions.
Reform to all branches of Government to fit our modern society, would be a good start.

Thanks for your honesty and integrity! May we find a way to bridge the gapes politics has caused. Eliminate Lobbyists who try to control Legislation for Corp interests. Eliminate the need for Party control over Legislation and corp funding to campaigns.

There is a congressional mandate- to read the legislation, and vote based upon its content. OCare was passed without legislators knowing what was in the bill. Isn't that a basis to recind Ocare, and then the mandate is a non-issue, and social security is not in question.

For the banks, it is all or nothing- too big to fail, which is why they added insurance to banking. It is a monopoly the government cannot control w/o controlling the banksters, and hence there is no control over healthcare costs.

If this mandate is overturned, move the Capital to Walls St, where they have all the money. Mr Greenjeans has taken over.

There is a sense the SCOTUS case is just a staged event, with the intention to put on lots of testimony, to make it look like a big decision, but actually it is all rigged- just so elected leaders will not be blamed for mishandling and tossing out Social Security, and dealing away healthcare for the needy also.

You laid out a solid case for why the US and Russia, despite differences, should be cautious allies and NOT enemies.

But this is NOT the US view of the McCAINS and, it must be clear now, the ROMNEYIACS. They want Russia as "Enemy #1" despite the arguably far greater challenges from China, radical Islam etc.

This is another reason I favor "baggage" Newt over "non-baggage" (heh) Romney. Admittedly, I'm not up on Gingrich and Russia, but until seeing otherwise, I'd be willing to bet it's more rational and nuanced than the banal "Russia our Enemy #1."

But of course GOP Central is determined to anoint Plastic Man. (We are told that Romneycare doesn't have the "baggage", right?)

Truth came out today about the Trayvon case... head investigating detective wanted to arrest Zimmerman on the spot but pressure was put on him from the top on down to forget it.

Also, witnesses will talk about how they were coerced and their testimonies were coached.
