Chief Joe

The bankers are starting out the new year by promoting more of the same - no resolutions of improvement coming from them. At one time speculators were considered criminals with a mob mentality.

Meanwhile, does anyone want Congress back? Just wondering. For the unemployed, it is becoming a matter of survival. The campaign is far off noise, and grand-standing compared with the problems people face.

And what of those fires in CA? Crazy people? or Russian agents trying to inflame conflicts with the Mexicans?

Sswelborn

Thank you Monica for your clear thoughts on this confusing campaign. Unfortunately for all Americans we elected the wrong choice last time and we must not do that again. The cost are too high, it is critical. Mitt Romney should not be our President. He is not a real Republican, and because of his background will be defeated by BO because he is seen as a "Rich Man". But more importantly his background shows he is not a man of strong convictions. The DNC is ready for him. We need a candidate with a back bone, with convictions. The only choice is the man with all the baggage, Newt. Republicans should rally behind him and push him upwards now. He can win, and more importantly can change the course of America.

thebuckstopshere

ah fuk it why bother, Perry got close attention by the LSM? only when he flubbed babe.......we are going to get the RNC's choice period, which once again will be NO CHOICE...........

/////Santorum is a genuine conservative and a good man/////

Social conservative, sure. But what did Iowans know about "good" Ricky's history as a Big Government Gooper (in the Bush mold) who voted time and again with the widely detested Arlen Specter, who he and George Bush supported against the real conservative Pat Toomey in Senate race?

ERIC ERICKSON///Rick Santorum substantially over performed and while the Romney camp wants you to believe a win is a win, Romney got less votes in 2012 than he got in 2008. In addition, everything you heard last night from the professional class of political pundit was bull crap.

Stay tuned, amigos. As for Bachmann---fare thee well, Michele. You often brandished that sword, especially on Rick Perry, a pretty stalwart conservative. What happened to your arsenal for GOP Central's "next in line" Romney, the godfather of the Mandate you say you want repealed?

Monica, in all the gushing about conservatism you seem to be overlooking the basic definition which is resistance to change. If there is one thing we absolutely can't afford it is to continue without change. We especially can't continue the exponential rise in debt to GDP that has developed the last dozen years.

Ron Paul is not wrong about our role in the world. He believes in the Constitution and our founding values. Nothing in the Constitution gives our government power to run around the world toppling dictators who are no threat to us and trying to build governments contrary to the values of the local people. He understands our real strength is our economic power if we can keep it. If the Roman empire wasn't enough of a lesson, note what happened to the British empire when Britain lost it's economic strength.

Don't count Perry out. He is a Texan, as smart as LBJ and maybe even more crooked. If he can pull the right strings, voter opinion won't matter. The dangerous thing about him is he may be more Confederate than American.

thebuckstopshere

ya know, I take a crooked politician who gives me a good job over a crooked politician who gives our good jobs away OVERSEAS..........

As time goes on, I think peoples' confidence in Romney will only increase. Like his "moderateness" or not, all things considered he's the best qualified in the current field. I think he is the only one that can beat Obama. However, he needs to be extremely careful about who he picks as his VP.

As for the other Rick, Romney knows he's just a flea who can be brushed away anytime that Romney's Oppo decides to tell the real story about Big Government Santorum---the story they carefully shut up about in Iowa. Time for a third party is LONG overdo.

Bachmann leaves race

It was an excellent statement, showing what an excellent person she is. She said that it was on March 21, 2010, the day of the passage of Obamacare, that she first thought of running for president, in order to stop it. From the start she has understood the transcendent issue of this election year: that either a Republican president and a Republican Congress are elected to repeal Obamacare and tear it up by the roots, or America becomes irreversibly an unfree statist country like the countries of Europe.
That was the great and central message of her campaign, but also its limitation. Running to appeal Obamacare and turn the economy around and constantly reiterating that she was the "most consistent conservative" in the race were not a sufficient basis for a winning presidential candidacy. She needed a larger message about the direction in which, beyond the issues of Obamacare and the economy, she would lead the country as president, how she would "win back America," how she would turn back the prevailing left, and this she never developed.

- end of initial entry -

Paul K. writes:

I regret that Bachmann didn't receive enough support to justify her remaining in the race, but it seems to me she would be the ideal vice presidential choice for Romney should he get the nomination, as seems likely. Romney needs to appeal to the conservative base and she will go at Obama hammer and tongs. She would do very well debating Biden should he be still be on Obama's ticket, though I have a sneaking suspicion that in order to inject some excitement into his campaign, Obama will replace Biden with Hillary. If so, Bachmann would help counter that.
Irv P. writes:

She showed me why I supported her so strongly. She is a special person who has the light of GOD in her heart, and that is what gives her guidance and strength.

She is, and we are, on the outside looking in.

We can hope that she will influence the others who stay in, particularly Santorum, and that he will closely mirror what she stands for.

Mexican Grand Warlock predicts Obama loss in 2012

Mexico's Grand Warlock predicted US President Barack Obama would fail to win re-election and two more Latin American leaders would be diagnosed with cancer, in a traditional New Year's forecast Tuesday.
The Grand Warlock, or "Brujo Mayor" in Spanish, leads a Mexican tradition of "brujeria" or sorcery centered in the southeastern city of Catemaco.

The Grand Warlock, also known as Antonio Vazquez, said that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who claims to have beaten an unspecified cancer, would have a "terrible relapse."

Looks to me like DJ got it right on the "beauty" of McCain endorsing Romney. I'd say "irony" but that seems to be a dirty word in the US. DJ also did not misrepresent me on Perry's decision to hang in there. And he's no longer reviling Perry, like he used to when I first "introduced" Rick Perry to Monicamemo. That's progress, or what?

Now, to forestall the possibility re my view on Romney's "electability," let's cite Rush Limbaugh. RL is pointing out how the "electability" meme is being played by the Mainstream, to dupe the naive and also to make them believe that the Obamunists most fear Romney. RL says that when and if Willard is anointed, the entire "Repeal Obamacare" drive will be neutralized due to the facts about Romneycare, the progenitor, and that Willard's business sense and Wall Street ties will be the perfect foil for Obama's ferocious Marxist Class War rabble rousing. (This by the way, fits in with my view that Romney, who is pretty much a wind-up Corporate Charlie, good in his limited sphere, can never articulate and take the war to Obama like a Gingrich can, despite Newt's baggage._

BTW, Rush has a certain advantage in promoting this view about Willard: 500 radio outlets.
