The Republican presidential candidates displayed the patience of Job last night as they fended off ridiculous and largely stupid questions from the CNBC "moderators." Here they were, on a business network, having to school business "anchors" on how business works. Good on them. They all performed really well, stuck it to Obama, the Left and the media while advancing positive conservative agendas on tax reform and economic growth. Well done by all.
A few additional comments:
Mitt Romney: He was his usual cautious self, which is helping him maintain his lead position, but the caution is also really boring. Necessary to prevent screw-ups, but boring. Marry that to his inability to deal with questions about individual mandates in health care and the fact that he's not a small government conservative, and well, ho hum.
Rick Perry: His performance was actually quite stellar. The best debate performance we've seen from him so far---which isn't saying a lot, I know. Debating ain't his bag. But his answers were clear and concise and conservative. Until the brainfart. We've all been there. We can relate to it. It was painful to watch, and he tried gamely to regroup once he had remembered the third federal department he'd eliminate (Energy, which along with his other two, Education and Commerce DO need to go). He appeared on several morning shows to do damage control and spun it in an amusing way. His campaign asked people: "which federal agency would YOU like to forget?" Good rebound. But here's the reality: GOP voters will not send him into a debate with Obama. Sad for Perry, but true.
Which brings us to Newt Gingrich. As usual, he was dynamite: brilliant, deliberative and right about everything. Now that we all realized that we're less than a year from the presidential election, we're trying to visualize the presidential debates. Which of the GOP candidates could thrust and parry with Obama most effectively? All of them would do a great job. Only Newt would truly make mincemeat out of him. That's the main reason he's rising in the polls. He's a serious conservative intellectual who is fearless.
Herman Cain: He did a fantastic job of turning back those invasive and insulting questions about the allegations and turning to his economic solutions for the country. Cain has shown himself to be a political novice---which is why so many voters are drawn to him---but also a strong, forceful voice for conservative, free market principles. He may be dented by the allegations and how he's handled them (which hasn't been particularly good). But he lives to fight on another day.
The other candidates acquitted themselves marvelously. All were smart, thoughtful and self-possessed. Any of them would be light years better than Barack Obama and would set the country back on its rightful path.
In the end, I think it's going to largely end up being a two-man race between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.
Let the games begin.
I very much agree with Monica's assessment of last night's debate. I think it's pretty obvious the race has now become a contest between Newt and Mitt - but with the very real possibility of a surge by Huntsman.

Why do the liberals work so hard at bringing down and destroying people who are conservative thinkers? If Herman Cain were already a politician, perhaps the accusations against him might be a little more believeable. A business person needs to have more integrity than a politician to keep his job. Why don't they question every thought, word, and deed of Obama who is a hate-monger, a liar, and abused the power of his office? Why isn't Obama accountable?
Posted by: seebee | November 10, 2011 at 09:24 AM
I agree with Monica, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich did great last night.
Sorry but the same cannot be said for Perry. His performance was not "stellar" at all. He's a clown in a business suit.
Posted by: Rafe | November 10, 2011 at 09:39 AM
On the money Monica...Newt wins as the best to face off with Obama, Romney is holding his ground. Nice ticket...The Newt-Mitt Obama Buster.
Posted by: Dallasrcollins | November 10, 2011 at 10:02 AM
That is the stupidest thing I've ever read. Not only are most of them lacking the brain power to run a country, but the two who might be intelligent enough to be president are ruthless businessmen whose main focus is profits, not the well being of America. You see what happens when the markets are recovering without the rest of America - no jobs have been created. The focus on business over the welfare of the citizens of this country is what's decimated our culture over the last two decades. Way to support the death of America.
Posted by: Driveswift | November 10, 2011 at 10:32 AM
uh huh, "our choice" is going to be between the master (de)baters...............I did not see the debate as to no television & it was buffering so bad on line, forget about it..........however in a Perry clip on line with the fed program flub, I think it points out how MUCH bureaucracy we have & ANY non debater could make the same flub..........or perhaps my SUPPORT of the gov whose state is in good shape is my bias.........the obamalite campaign will not let Newt be the one to debate the won, imo..............
btw, many Texans do NOT want Perry to leave Texas.........
YOUR CHEATING HEART WILL TELL ON YOU...........

Monica, I think we watched two different debates last night. This is the first debate I heard more substance than hyperbole. I thought the panel asked excellent and fair questions, and held the candidates to a strict timeline.
I agree with you that when the dust settles, only Newt and Romney will be left standing.
Posted by: MKCBurd | November 10, 2011 at 11:13 AM
While the country doesn't need a debater-in-chief, we do need one who can think on his feet. This is his second flub. Can we try once more? Maybe going for potus is just outside his skill set? Texas LOVES him, wants to keep him as governor; maybe that's his best bet. Romney? Give us a break! We need a conservative, not a RINO! Who does that leave?
Posted by: IAMPCBob | November 10, 2011 at 11:30 AM
Everytime there is a GOP debate. Monica does her best with Damage Control.
Perry needed Cain's help to identify the 3 departments he wants to remove.
Romney is a flip-flopper.
Newt couldn't make mincemeat out of anyone!

The irregulars did their damage control and attacked that statement.

Monica may have hit on the most important thing that could be done to improve the country, do away with the Department of Commerce. In spite of Roe v Wade and the pill, America clearly has too many people. That is shown by the great number who can spend time at various rallies, occupations, rioting at Penn State and so on. The traditional cure for that is to send people to war. We can no longer afford to send them abroad to war, but returning to the traditional way of settling disputes over commerce, force of arms, would provide that cure here. It would give the economy a great boost for each state or commercial area to need to manufacture weapons and munitions. Along with handling commercial disputes it would provide an opportunity to eliminate people like the new governor of Mississippi who stands with the ayatollahs in considering America to be the great Satan and who denounced the people of Mississippi as Satanists because they clung to the tradition that a breathing human being, not a fertilized egg, is a human being. We are overdue for more good wars.

Didn't see last night's GOP "debate," (as these 'gotcha games' are pretentiously called in today's US pop culture
Apparently Rick Perry scored the most unforgettable moment. He forgot the name of the third Washington Bureaucracy he'd eliminate. He was having a "senior moment" on Big Time TV. Foes could cackle, friends and independents cringe, and maybe even rich Texans demand Stop Payment on checks to their Governor.
I could laugh at ol' Rick. I could also laugh with him.
What he did was so hilarious, so "dumb seeming," so perfectly embarrassing, hell, hysterical,it bordered on genius. Inadvertently, unconsciously, he was saying,
"Look y'all, we all know this is a pop quiz game show for the boob tube, and I'm not so good at it, and if that's what y'all want, after I've been dealing with the Energy Department for 10 years (unlike everybody else on this stage), and despise the Energy Department and can tell you why from here to Sunday why the Energy Department needs to go, but I sure can't in this stupid slick "gotcha" format they call a "debate," sorry, so here, have a big laugh, it's on me. I won't even say 'Energy Department.' See how 'dumb' I am? I won't say those two words I know a whole lot about, more than anybody on this stage. Okay, folks? Let's do laughingstock. Let's forget reality and have us a big ol' laugh right now! Go ahead. It's on me. With the shape the socialists got this country in, we need a good laugh."
And everybody is having it. And everybody, including Monica, is saying Rick Perry is DONE.
And everybody might be right. I underline 'might.'

PROGASITE, a noun.
1. a troll, a progressive parasite.
2. a progasite feeds 24/7 on a conservative host. DAVID AXELROD'S PATTERN OF SEXUAL MISBEHAVIOR
November 9, 2011 Ann Coulter
Herman Cain has spent his life living and working all over the country -- Indiana, Georgia, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, Washington, D.C. -- but never in Chicago.
So it's curious that all the sexual harassment allegations against Cain emanate from Chicago: home of the Daley machine and Obama consigliere David Axelrod.

gringoNOTE: This guy is right, at least on one point. 'Homosexual does not equal child raper'. Yes, he got that right. Absolutely right. However, in getting one point right, he's dodging another: A man raping a boy is committing a homosexual act. A man raping a girl is committing a heterosexual act. Penn State was covering up for the former. This is so clear, even a progressive can understand it.
If not, he doesn't understand English.

The Hidden Hitler in the New York Times Book Review by psychiatrist Walter Reich, former director of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington. Totally ignoring the viciousness of Macho homosexuality, its intimate connection with German militarism and its pivotal role in creating Holocaust brutalities, Reich suggests that if Hitler was indeed homosexual that "may actually serve to humanize", him.

Posted by: gringoman | November 10, 2011 at 05:54 PM
A debate is just talk, and the ability to use your memory, and move your tongue on camera. Too much importance on this produces a figure-head. The important vetting takes place behind this scene. On camera we judge - based on spoken content, and if a candidate fails, he changes his content and might win. He is talking for his dinner.
BUT ...
Could he sign this legislation without reading it? Could he be insensitive to investing abroad, while creating domestic unemployment? Could he sign-off on dropping retirement security for millions? Could he cheat 99% of political interests to favor a tiny minority? Could he take campaign money from foreign sources and keep them secret? Could they pass a lie detector test, anytime, on anything?
I was told to look for puffy eyes on camera - indicating they are organizing and cutting sleep. But what if .. it is just botox?
Perhaps they could use a reading by Scientologists, to reinforce the basic notion that anything must be balanced against its effect on the public interest. Its only a little electricity.

Mark Levin is playing back some of Obama's gaffes. The list is amazing. This guy is practically the equal of Joe Biden as a gaffe machine. But all we hear from the Obamasuck Media is that Rick Perry made a blooper in the "Debate" and therefore "that boy is DONE."
Maybe he is, since most "conservatives" seem to be following the Obamasuck Media's line on this.
But if you heard ML's litany of recorded gaffes by the "brilliant Ivy League Obama" you'd realize that intellectually he might not be far above the troll trash progs that invade and squat on Monicamemo.

"A man raping a boy is committing a homosexual act." - Gringwhore
Wrong yet AGAIN!!! A man sodomizing a boy is committing a VIOLENT act, would just as soon rape a chicken if one were available, and has only chosen the victim proven in case after case after study after study as least likely NOT to run to Mommy and Daddy in hysterics.
In interview after interview, child rapists readily admit they'd rather have raped a female but females tell far more often than male victims, who will not talk because of the shame impinging their manhood. Raping a girl for a sex offender often means they know they will be also murdering her in advance. A boy can be less messy and let go, but once an offender has been in prison, released, and has no wish to ever go back, they often become murderers as well no matter the sex of the victim.
Rape, like it's extension, murder, is an act of violence, not of sex. Of ANY kind of sex.

Levin is pointing out that MASS has become a a fiscal basket case, due to Obamneycare. "It's a disaster!" Levin is not being Rovified by the slick Captain Flip-Flop at all. Levin also understands perfectly why Romney is the choice of Libworld (for the GOP.)
