Saturday.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Gov. Rick Perry of Texas said on Saturday that as president, he would consider sending American troops into Mexico to help defeat drug cartels and improve border security. He indicated that any such action would be done “in concert” with the Mexican government.

UNION BOSS: Nah. Let's build us a 1800 mile fence. Overtime for over 10 years? Drool, Baby, Drool. Union labor. That's the answer. We all foot the bill, even the rich. Yuck-yuck.

With the presidential election coming up, and the Obama administration unpopular with the professional left, it sure would be helpful to construct some kind of movement, to show the hard left aka Barack Obama's base, that they are all pursuing the same agenda. But as the old saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day. I have been watching footage from "Occupy Wall Street" it appears that generation unwashed, showed up. I see Rick Perry's latest trick is to paint himself as tough on illegal immigration.

That's about as absurd as Barry Obama proclaiming he is a deficit hawk.

personally, I think cleaning up the cartels would be an excellent expense of tax payers money to protect our border.......sure would beat "fast & furious" eh? & since it is the job of the fed to protect our borders maybe Governor Perry wants to make sure it gets done.........I mean how many times has he asked the feds to do their job? I have tried explaining the history of texas being part of Mexico & the hispanic connection to apparently no avail........

btw, I see where Herman thinks Perry is a good governor, what's up with that?

In my estimation, the ONLY Republican nominee that can lose to Barry is Perry. The reason is this: Most on the right despise Perry's attitude towards illegal immigrants, i.e., the Texas DREAM Act.

Rick Perry's Candidacy: If The Definition Of Insanity Is ...
By Steve Sailer on October 1, 2011

... to keep doing the same thing and expect a different result, the Rick Perry candidacy would be a prime exemplar. After eight years of Bush, we are now offered the guy Bush was pretending to be.
A friend writes:

To state this in partisan terms, a lot of Republicans don't get that Republican policies don't produce outcomes Republicans want. Sadly, the same can be said of all too many Democrats as well.

Rick Perry and Illegal Immigration

Plenty of folks have objected to Perry's supports for in-state tuition for illegals. However, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Perry is a full fledged Open Borders activist. He has never seen an immigration law he is willing to enforce. Perry is another mass immigration, cheap labor corporatist, no different than the Bushes (Jeb and George) or Rubio for that matter. Of course, while he loves illegals for cheap labor, he doesn't want them to vote. He pushed hard for, and passed, a Voter Id bill in 2011. A few notes on Perry and illegals.

1. Perry claims that in-state tuition is a "States Rights" issue. Actually, it is not. Federal law specifically prohibits the granting of in-statue tuition to illegals unless the citizens of all states have the same privilege. See "Rick Perry, In-State Tuition, and Federal Law" by Heather MacDonald.

Here is what the law actually says.

“An alien who is not lawfully present in the United States,” declares Section 505 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA), “shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State . . . for any postsecondary education benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit (in no less an amount, duration, and scope) without regard to whether the citizen or national is such a resident.”

Note that the California Supreme Court ruled otherwise. However, a more germane point is that niether Bush nor Obama has ever tried to enforce the law (by suing the states).

2. Perry has consistently opposed any type of immigration enforcement. He opposes E-verify (because it has been shown to work). He opposes fences (because they work in Israel and the U.S.). He opposes using police to catch illegals (along the lines of SB1070 in Arizona) because it works. What does Perry support? Make believe border enforcement. Perry has asked for 1000 National Guardsmen along the border. That's less than one per mile. Allowing for 3 shifts per day and weekends, that less than one Guardsman for every 5 miles. However, it gets worse. What does the border patrol actually do? It catches illegals and returns them to Mexico so they can try again. Many are caught several times in one day. "It ain't over until the illegal wins" is the Perry way.

3. Perry Perry is about as pro-Amnesty as you can get. He just doesn't have the guts to call it Amnesty. So he talks about "work permits" and waiting in line. Guess what? A work permit makes an illegal alien, a legal resident of the United States. You can use any word or words you like, but Amnesty is still Amnesty. As for "waiting in line"... People who come to this country wait in line at home. Under they Perry plan, the illegals "wait in line" right here in the USA draining our country every day of our taxes, jobs, schools, etc.

4. Perry supports the NAFTA superhighway. Enough said.

5. Don't buy the argument that people feel differently in Texas about immigration. Texas polling data shows immense opposition to illegal immigration. See "UT/TT Poll: An Anti-Immigrant, Anti-Government Mood" by Ross Ramsey over at the Texas Tribune. Texas politicians are a different matter. The cheap labor lobby is (much) stronger in Texas than elsewhere.

6. Perry's job creation record is actually rather poor. A detailed study found that Perry has created two jobs for illegals, for each Job that an American got. Another two jobs went to legal immigrants. In other words, Perry has created 4 jobs for immigrants (half illegal) for each new American job.

7. You can find a rather good video on Perry's record here.

It would not be so bad, but that most of this activity is border-line fraudulent or actually fraudulent, being accomplished by those interested in reversing past discrimination. There is a streak of criminality in this, and an anything goes sort of attitude. Voter fraud, lists of donors for positions, .. people who forgot how to farm, Hindu enterprises, and now Sharpton's bad stimulus checks.

Hopefully there were some who were honest, who will make something good out of White House generosity.

There is discretionary money everywhere in the USA, even here in the Detroit area. Secondly, Texas's unemployment rate is 8.4% and rising. Lastly, 81% the jobs created in Texas since 2007 went to immigrants. Moreover, of those jobs that went to immigrants, 50% went to ILLEGAL immigrants. Thank you Mr. Perry.

The presidential campaign of Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) complained Sunday that a front-page Washington Post story contains “incorrect, inconsistent” claims.

The article, headlined “Rick Perry and a word set on stone: The candidate calls the old name of his family's Texas hunting camp 'offensive,' but what he did about it is unclear," asserts that Perry once hosted lawmakers, friends and supporters at property known by a racial slur painted in block letters on a flat rock at its gated entrance.

DJ,

Believe it or not, I'm aware of that. Which is why my question was not: Why do you oppose Perry? You can oppose Perry for 50 different reasons, and not one of them addressing the Constitutional question.

My question was about States Rights, an issue that's bed-rock to American conservatism. I'm always told that conservatives are about the the Constitution, unlike the liberals. Was I misled? Texas is clearly implementing its States Rights and at the same time pointing to the Federal obligation. So how does one oppose Texas here and get called a "conservative"? Looks like I better underline. One can oppose Texas, yes. One can oppose Perry, sho' can. But how does one oppose their clearly defined States Rights stance--- and call one's self a conservative?

Or are we branching out to other continents in defining "conservative"? I'd rather keep it limited to American, but as a traveler, am open to alien understandings of "conservatism."

RED ARMY

by Aaron Klein and Brenda Eliot.

No, this isn't about the one in Stalin's Russia. This is about the Left in America today.

RED ARMY documents painstakingly the interconnections among the socialists, Communists, academics, union bosses, terrorists etc, from the White House down to the Trust Fund Babies and cohorts now taking Marx Class War to Wall Street.

Makes Obama's radical past as obvious as his plan to redistribute what producers produce, and push the USA into the Marxoid "equality" of George Orwell's ANIMAL FARM.

Only it's about much more than just a slick-tongued Community Organizer who hit the lottery in 'Socialist Dream Come True on Wall Street.'

Demonstrates and documents clearly today's progressive strategy: While race-baiting, comrades, we crush the free enterprise system by overloading it with welfare and entitlements, suffocate with thousands of regulations, like Obamacare, use the Lenin tactic of "boring from within," (Ivy League Obots and corporate/union hacks in the White House and their czars infiltrating every level of the federal bureaucracy) while the lower level (the useful idiots, the naive college kiddies, the troll trash etc), do Internet "education" and Wall Street "actions" against the "greedy" etc

Hundreds, maybe thousands of citations and references in RED ARMY.

Son of author Saul Bellow calls RED ARMY "the Moby Dick of conservatism."

The Gringo Advisory Board ranks Aaron Klein (ABC Radio) as "the best young investigative reporter in America, and arguably the top investigative reporter, period. His highly detailed and researched work is to 'progressives' what fresh garlic is to a vampire."

DJ,

I'm trying to understand you. Help me. I'm begging you.

Perry over-stepped his legal bounds in granting in-state tuition to illegals? Do you really mean that? What are you saying?

It was not even Perry who granted this. It was the Texas State Legislature.

Okay, let's not quibble with your understanding of that. Let's say that Perry did the "granting."

How is this "illegal"? This was not an executive order You understand that, right? He did nothing against the wishes of the Texas governing authority. He was not rebuked for anything. The Texas Legislature voted 177-4. You know that, right? I don't even understand why you want to sig the out-to-lunch Feds on Perry instead of Texas and its Legislature. I see a constant attempt to focus on just the Governor who obviously is in synch with his State, far more than NY Governor Cuomo was with his State when he got gaybian marriage legalized by a razor thin margin.

For the love of Aphrodite (in deference I won't go Catholic on you here) what is "illegal" about this?
It doesn't matter if the Mexicans were really from Mars. Texas can grant Martians whatever rights it so chooses, or not. Do you get that? Or not? If you really disagree with the in-state tuition, you should be advocating for Washington to invade Texas, since you wouldn't mind them dealing with Perry. But do a Mussolini on Perry, and you still have the State Legislature to deal with.

DJ, I suspect you're confusing "legal" with "moral," so let me try to help.

You don't really mean that what Texas did was "illegal." It was obviously perfectly legal under the US Constitution. What you really mean is that it was not "moral" or "patriotic", according to your view of what is "moral" and "patriotic", and therefore the "moral," as you see it, should over-ride the Constitutional and legal. Put the C aside when it ain't "moral" enough.

Is that better, DJ? Can you work with that? It's the argument of the "Progressives" right now, who want to "change" the US Constitution, a document that deeply annoys the Left, and portions of the Right.

Hilarious! In fact this jives perfectly wth my recent remarks about Asian racism and how ignorant the US is about it. It's like ads I used to see in Mexico and even in Saigon, which would have been banned in the "sensitive" US. In Saigon you could see a huge billboard showing a grinning black dude with gleaming white teeth, which you too could have if you used that toothpaste. I think that billboard was removed only very recently.

HUBRIS OF THE PROGS

Full of hubris in 1965, Lyndon Johnson had seized his moment. He had launched a Great Society that would outdo his beloved patron FDR. He would dispatch 500,000 troops to Vietnam to “bring the coonskin home on the wall” and create a “Great Society on the Mekong.” Those were heady days of “guns-and-butter.”

By 1968, LBJ’s coalition was shredded. Gov. George Wallace had torn away the populist right. Sens. Gene McCarthy, George McGovern and Robert Kennedy had rallied the antiwar left against him. LBJ and Hubert Humphrey were left to preside over a shrinking center.

Why did LBJ fail? He overloaded the circuits. He tried to do it all. He misread a national desire for continuity after Kennedy’s death as a mandate for a lunge to the left and a great leap forward with the largest expansion of government since the New Deal.
