Norquist Loves Deal: Obama Big Loser
Monday, 01 Aug 2011
"The deal proved that we can cut spending without trading away tax hikes," Norquist says.
He adds that the deal is no passing congressional fad, but a milestone in Capitol Hill thinking about spending and taxes.
"The deal set a new precedent: Never again will the debt ceiling be raised without a similarly sized spending cut being attached," he tells Newsmax.
The big loser in the deal?
Norquist declares unequivocally that Obama wins that title.
"Obama's internal polling must scare the heck out of him," Norquist says. "He caved on the key Republican demands: no tax hike, spending cuts equal to the debt ceiling increase."

gringoNOTE: But Norquist leaves out a little detail. Regardless of whether you see this deal as a conservative victory--and yes, even the NY Times and Krugman are groaning---Obama did get the G.O.P. to cave on his sina qua non. i.e. The Goopers let him get away with keeping the debt ceiling debate out of the 2012 Election. They extended the debt ceiling till past the Election, thereby saving the man-child's bacon election-wise.
It's not just me saying this. Monica's Roger Stone's Donald Trump says it loud and clear. Trump says Obama would be a certain loser in 2012 if this debt ceiling debate got into the 2012 Election. Obama would be stale arugala pizza. But the G.O.P. prevented this. Gooper Speaker Boehner agreed to save Obama from that.
ps. For conspiracy buffs, this could be part of the Grand Gooper Strategy which Roger Stone suggests is favored by the House of Bush: Nominate a Corporate Charley patsy like Romneycare, dust his teleprompter, keep him nice and shiny, give 2012 to Obama. Result: this paves the way for Jebbie in 2016,a return of Bush Dynasty that has defeated Reaganism. You play checkers? Rulers play chess.
By my calculations, over the next ten years, our elected officials are going to add 12 trillion to the debt. This is assuming current level of spending minus 4 trillion of cuts in discretionary spending.
Tell me, who was it that won this debt ceiling battle?
