So, what to make of this budget turd?
There are two big outcomes---apart from the laughably paltry "cuts"---that put the Republicans on the losing side of the latest budget war.
1. The Democrats have successfully termed the $38 billion as "cuts." By calling them "cuts," they could scream and holler about how the GOP wants to throw Grandma in the snow, make Grandpa eat cat food, and kill women. They could then appear to reluctantly go along with these "cuts" and get credit from a public desperate to see fiscal restraint and government shrunk.
These "cuts" were no such thing. A true cut is an actual reduction from actual previous spending levels. The $38 billion number is an amount being denied to AN IMAGINARY BUDGET NEVER ADOPTED. They were all working from President Obama's proposed 2011 budget, which clocked in at a staggering $3.7 trillion. That came after two previous years in which he so increased the spending baseline that he had everyone working from incredibly elevated levels. If I'm spending $50, and then I'm spending $100, and then I propose to spend $150....and then someone asks me to cut my budget, and I do by $10 so now I'm spending $140, is anybody buying that that's a true "cut?"
The GOP fell for this scam hook, line, and sinker. Shame on them.
2. The Republican leadership, in getting totally manuevered, also gave away their major weapon in the fight: the leverage they had in holding out the possibility of a government shutdown. Speaker Boehner actually said, "We'll never shut down the government." Never? Wow. What a Junior League mistake. This is Politics 101. And, frankly, War 101. You never tell the enemy what you will do, and you never tell them what you won't do. And the GOP just disarmed themselves, not just in this last battle, but in the big battles to come over the debt ceiling and the 2012 budget. Now the Democrats know that not only will the GOP not fight for serious budget cuts, they'll cave at the first sign of a possible shutdown.
The Dems got their budget, almost fully intact given the elevated baseline, and they saw the GOP run away like a bunch of scaredy cats.
On top of that, like the cherry on a sundae, Obama and his party get the benefit of the hilarious headlines saying the GOP "won." They know the GOP didn't win---and that's why they're happy to let them have their little "duh, winning" headlines.
Meanwhile, Obama and the Dems are laughing all the way to the Treasury.

if we had "transparency" as promised, I would think that would include producing the BC & college transcripts that the public wants to see, instead of labeling his constituency as loonies

Mark Levin is often right. But is he right about Trump?
///////Mark Levin
Trump is NOT the real deal. He will get Obama re-elected. This is not a game. This is not a circus. He is not a conservative. He was happy to donate to Schumer, Weiner, & Emanuel campaigns last year. He was pro-choice recently and now claims to be pro-life. He sounds more & more like Ross Perot. If he runs as an Independent, Obama wins. We should not encourage this.
Trump Will ‘Probably’ Run as Independent If He Doesn’t Win GOP Nomination - Washington Wire - WSJ
blogs.wsj.com
Donald Trump will probably run as an independent candidate for U.S. President in 2012 if he does not receive the Republican partys nomination, he told the Wall Street Journal in a video interview on Monday.

the only ones who want to see Obama's BC are those who want him out of office. Just like those who fought for the hanging chads wanted Bush not to win. same thing.

John Dufrene////FACEBOOK We got Trump figured out. He is working lock, stock and barrel with Barry, to attempt to win a 2nd term. Don't buy into his hype. Why do you think he is able to "stump the media" wherever he goes, and they don't counter his statements, to ALL of them it is only a game. To us down in the trenches it is not a *&%$ing game; it's for keeps.

what difference does it make who wants to see above mentioned documents, HE PROMISED THE MOST OPEN GOVERNMENT & TRANSPARENCY....if he has nothing to hide, produce said documents for the sake of fulfilling at least one campaign promise....how about that troop withdrawal? NO tax increases for anyone making under 250K. reducing nat'l debt within his first two years etc etc etc...........make me puke, party liners, straight ticket pudd pullers, with way hanging nads.

SuperDave Show FACEBOOK I gotta tell you Mark, I would rather see Trump than Romney, Gingrich, and many others who are useless Republicans who "want to play the game" of politics at our expense. As for me, I am glad someone is really bringing questions to the forefront instead of quietly saying it behind closed doors. I would rather see fomer Gov Gary Johnson but at this point, I will take trump over the GOP elites!

Obama's open Government? And, the goals he promised? He discovered that getting things done isn't easy. There's the other party and lobbyists who outnumber the politicians by a huge margin that don't want him to win. as, a republican said on Foxnews. The GOP can't afford for the Dems to win in anything.

Posted by: thebuckstopshere | April 13, 2011 at 12:30 AM
Hanging nads? who both parties? I think all politicians are a waste. They are self fulfilling people who want to help themseves. Paid by lobbyists lie to people. Many want to cut programs to help people better themselves with schooling. Pell grants for one.. Put food on poor children's tables. But, want to do everything to help the rich. And, themselves. In this whole cut spending debate. Name 1 politician who wanted to cut something that affected themselves personally. They give themselves the best healthcare program. Raises, whatever.

Why should we just drop it without the freakin POTUS of our USA who works for us providing proof of identification just as we all have to do to carry out any kind of official task that involves the Government.
The Clinton campaign brought it up and we want answers, it's our White House and the POTUS is emolyed by us, he works for us, we are is his boss !!!
Show us your BC Obamanation, prove to us who you really are, you freakin abominable anti-American traitor !!!
Obamanation leftist-liberal-Democrat, sworn enemy and obstructor of the;
US Constitution, States Rights, AZ SB 1070, USA oil drilling energy independence, secure borders, an English based cultuire and population,

oil drilling?
http://www.nextenergynews.com/news1/next-energy-news2.13s.html
Have also posted link on this post earler wher many experts feel that we have 300 billion barrels of oil left in our abandoned well sites. Then, it was too expensive to get the rest of the oil out years ago.
http://liquidgoldinternational.com/the-technology-and-the-united-states
these 2 links state that we could have between 500 and 600 billion barrels of oil in this country.
That doesn't include other areas such as Texas Shale oil.
English based population?
Thought all these "foreigners" started moving here decades ago. My family did from Sweden Denmark and just learned from Germany.
Do agree on better border security. But this country has never been a pure English speaking one.

Trump is right. We are not a respected nation. In more ways than one. Our politicians and the judges they appoint sure don't respect this nation.
So how can we expect all those roaring mice out there to respect us when we can't even call our own EMPLOYEES, namely our government, to order?

Phony talking point argument. Probably off of Huffblo. FACT is that this is not a "birther movement", but rather an increasingly sizable amount of the people who are beginning to wonder who he has spent in excess of $2 MILLION to get around showing his BC.
That's a pretty cut-and-dry and equally reasonable question to want to have answered of our ICHIBAN Employee in the White House, don't you think?

Boy, does this place become clogged with the boiler room crews in Pres election years.
I stand my ground. Trump can win against Obama, but not with the nutcase crowd like Palin and Bachmann. Trump needs someone established in the GOP but out of the current crowd. If he goes with Jeb Bush, he wins.
Against anyone but Hillary-Obama.
If he goes with anyone else, he loses and loses big.
But he knows this already.
He's not running as an independent either.

"This birther movement should have been stopped long ago." - Jay
We completely agree. Obama should have stopped this birther movement long ago by showing his longform birth certificate with attending physician and hospital, and not spending a LOT of money to keep people from looking.
People who hide things are not trustworthy.

the fact stil remains is that the Obama's BC is NO DIFFERNT than the hanging chads in the Frorida election in 2008. People always think it's different when the other side does it.
Obama can't be trusted? Sounds like Bush and his WMD to get us into Iraq.
Posted by: jay | April 13, 2011 at 06:33 PM
No Jay, the cases are entirely different and separate. In one case, you had a corrupt Supreme Court stopping the election count in Florida and declaring Bush President against the will of the American People. Well the vote count went on in spite of the court and Gore won. The Supreme Court decided 100% wrong and installed the wrong man.
In the case of Obama, he knows whether or not he has a long form birth certificate or not. And it is he who is blocking letting anyone else see it. And there is a question of eligibility through Constitutional Law. Obama is supposedly a Harvard Law Professor in Constitutional Law. He knows whether or not he is eligible.
In one case you have a corrupt Supreme Court stopping a vote count to install the wrong man; in another you have the man himself going to lengths to stop anyone from seeing a long form birth certificate, which the Governor of Hawaii himself (a strong ally and friend of Obama) has admitted THEY CANNOT FIND.
What the Obama campaign posted on the net as his birth certificate is not a birth certificate at all but a validation receipt that states a valid birth certificate exists in their files. One that the governor himself has stated they cannot find.
It's not good enough for proof of eligibility for the highest office in the land.
