45 people lynched amid Haiti cholera fears: officials
(AFP) – 3 days ago

PORT-AU-PRINCE — Angry Haitian mobs have lynched at least 45 people in recent weeks, accusing them of spreading a cholera outbreak that has killed over 2,500 people across the country, officials said Wednesday.

The number included at least 14 suspected sorcerers previously known to have been lynched in the far southwestern region of Grand'Anse as local people feared they were spreading cholera with a magical substance. The area has been largely spared by the outbreak.

"We have counted 40 people dead in Grand'Anse department alone, where people are attacking natural healers they accuse of cholera-linked witchcraft," said communications ministry official Moise Fritz Evens.

Five other people were killed in similar circumstances elsewhere in the country.

"The victims -- most of them voodoo priests -- were stoned or hacked with machetes before being burned in the street," added the official, who was presenting the results of an investigation conducted in Grand'Anse earlier this month.

Communications minister Marie-Laurence Lassegue said "voodoo practitioners have nothing to do with the cholera epidemic. We must press for an awareness campaign about the disease in the communities."

Official figures earlier showed the water-borne bacterial infection has claimed 2,591 lives so far in the nation's first cholera outbreak in more than a century. The disease first appeared in mid-October in the north.

Health ministry figures as of December 17 showed 121,518 people had been treated for the water-borne bacterial infection, including 63,711 who received hospital treatment.

And in a sign there is no end in sight for the disease that has become a thorn in the side of the already deeply troubled nation, about 50 people died on each of the last five days recorded. At the outbreak's peak in November, there were daily death tolls of 60, 70 and even 80 and above.

The cholera outbreak led to deadly anti-UN riots last month as a desperate populace turned its anger on peacekeepers from Nepal accused of bringing the disease into the country.

The first lynching cases date back to late last month, when mobs hacked or stoned to death their victims.

About half of Haiti's population is believed to practice the voodoo religion in some form, though many are thought to also follow other religious beliefs at the same time. Sorcery and spiritual magic have been incorporated into some of the beliefs.

Voodoo evolved out of the beliefs that slaves from West Africa brought with them to Haiti. It is now deeply rooted in Haitian culture.

Western evangelical Christian movements however are also making inroads in Haiti, and religious tensions have risen in the wake of January's catastrophic earthquake that killed 250,000 people and left more than one million homeless."

How true is this?......

Editor,

"Has America become the land of the special interest and home of the double standard?

Lets see: if we lie to the Congress, it's a felony and if the congress lies to us it's just politics; if we dislike a black person, we're racist and if a black dislikes whites, it's their 1st Amendment right; the government spends millions to rehabilitate criminals and they do almost nothing for the victims; in public schools you can teach that homosexuality is OK, but you better not use the word God in the process; you can kill an unborn child, but it's wrong to execute a mass murderer; we don't burn books in America, we now rewrite them; we got rid of the communist and socialist threat by renaming them progressives; we are unable to close our border with Mexico, but have no problem securing the 38th parallel in Korea; if you protest against President Obama's policies you're a terrorist, but if you burned an American flag or George Bush effigy it was your 1st Amendment right.

You can have pornography on TV or the internet, but you better not put a nativity scene in a public park during Christmas; we have eliminated all criminals in America, they are now called sick people; we can use a human fetus for medical research, but it's wrong to use an animal.

We take money from those who work hard for it and give it to those who don't want to work; we all support the Constitution, but only when it supports our political ideology; we still have freedom of speech, but only if we are being politically correct; parenting has been replaced with Ritalin and video games; land of opportunity is now the land of hand outs; the similarity between Hurricane Katrina and the gulf oil spill is that neither president did anything to help.

And how to we handle major crisis today? The government appoints a committee to determine who's at fault, then threatens them, passes a law, raises our taxes; tells us the problem is solved so they can get back to their reelection campaign.

Enjoy the time off, Monica. Great job on the McLaughlin Group Awards - Part 1 (except maybe citing Bush as Comeback of the Year, but the others were all on target.)

Even Eleanor conceded Obama has not lived up to his promises and expectations!

However, that jacket McLaughlin was wearing has got to go. Not sure if it was a horse blanket or not, but I'm pretty sure there is an old Volkswagen somewhere with no seat covers.

DJ, what I have read about your comment. Agree with it. Have been saying that politics are for the special interests groups at the expense of the average person. Will say that a huge part of those who aren't working are people that would love to work. Their homes are at stake. It isn't as simple as those who want to work are. And, those who don't want to work aren't.

Jay,

I couldn't agree with you more. MOST native born Americans WANT to work but can't find jobs.

It's criminal, bordering on treason, how our government is still allowing LEGAL immigration to continue at a pace of approximately 100,000 per month.

Further investigation reveals most of these immigrants are finding work once here. One has to ask how? Well, the obvious answer is they're willing to work for lower wages thus displacing native American workers. This is what the corporatists -- those who control/own both parties -- want.

What's amazing is most Americans are blind to what's happening to them. Like good little sheeple they mind-numbedly continue to bleat-on the official corporatist mantra: "We are FOR immigration as long as it's legal; after all, we are a nation of immigrants."

Too bad those unemployed VICTIMS are too brainwashed to realise their future is being ripped-off right in front of their face.. in plain view..via massive turd world immigration....

Gringoman,

California an New York certainly are. Many States to follow....

Disagreed with Patrick Buchanan when he said that Carl Paladino was the worst politician ever on today's TMG. Paladino is a business man who lives in a state where people are voting with their feet. (In fact, NY just lost 2 congressional seats because people are leaving.) Instead of moviing with his feet, he took time out of his business to run for political office in a state where most people couldn't be bothered to vote.

New Yorkers were electing 2 US Senators, 1 Comptroller, 1 Attorney General and a bunch of Congress people, along with a new Governor and the New York Republican party was not there to help.

Maybe you disliked or disagreed with Carl Paladino, but he did beat Rick Lazio and he did get people to the polls. As for the other positions, did people even no that there were Republicans running against the incumbents? Clearly, the worst politician are the Republican party bosses.

M/M

You can have pornography on TV or the internet, but you better not put a nativity scene in a public park during Christmas.

When Carl Paladino said he would not take his kids to a gay pride parade because some of the things he saw at them were objectionable, all heck broke loose. Can you imagine what would happen if we treated Gay Pride Day the way lieberals treat Christmas?

Don't you think it is weird that they have no problem taking their kids to a gay pride parade to see guys in speedos or other kinds of risque behavior, but they totally freak at the thought of exposing their kids to various symbols of Christmas?

jay

DJ, Have found that about native americans as well. Live in a state that has a high Native American and Hispanic population down south. In one of the plains states.Don't know if the conditions are the same now. But, in the 60s when my granddad took us on a trip to the Grand canyon. We went through a Navaho Reservation. saw a Hogan and remember a dead horse about 15-20 feet from the front door.
Nothing against legal immigrants. Just the illegal ones. That's why I do favor the Governor of Arizona's stand.

jay

M/M have found that those who object to Christmas are the athiests and Muslims.

M/M

Jay, haven't heard any Muslims protesting it, but I have seen so much Xmas, Happy Holiday and "Festivus for the Rest of Us" that I feel like MessNBC sent out a memo. They have made me hate snowmen.

I was shocked that NBC was ending its broadcast with "Merry Christmas". Actually, it felt so nice that I actually watched them.

Wow...A kid goes through a Navaho reservation and learns about Native Americans. There's so much more.
The most systematic attempt at genocide in the history of the World was carried out by the United States government against Native Americans. They were starved, poisoned, forced from their land, their women and children butchered, infected with disease...and all under the approval of the US Constitution and the sacred system of Capitalism. US Army soldiers were awarded medals for valor for the Slaughter, er, I mean Battle of Wounded Knee. They lived in perfect harmony with Earth and fought for their way of life and lost. They survive on government land that nobody wants, in government housing, eating government food. Who's next?

I was taken aback too when Pat dissed Carl Paladino like that. WTF got into Buchanan? I most always agree with him, but I thought his criticism of Paladino was gratuitous. It struck me as Pat trying to please the PC crowd; t'was very out of character for him to do something like that.

But on the otherhand, Pat DID choose Robert Weissberg as the "most original thinker".
Honest thinker would be a more apt title though.

For those unfamiliar with Weissberg, here is an article written by him posted over at the The American Thinker:

The College Diploma Fraud
By Robert Weissberg

"For more than a half-century, government has tried to close racial gaps in educational attainment. Sad to say, those gaps have proven intractable. Nevertheless, the impulse remains as heartfelt as ever (perhaps due to its financially lucrative character), but the emphasis is now shifting from actual learning to equality of graduation rates. President Obama has spoken of adding 5 million graduates to the workforce by 2020, and credential-mania is now all the rage. This shift is a disaster in the making; imparting knowledge is commendable, but just handing out diplomas is harmful deception. A cynic might aver that the shift from knowledge to graduation rates is a tacit admission that the gap-closing quest is futile."

Those native Indians killed a number of my civilian male ancestors between 1690 and 1705, marching the women and children to Canada in the winter, brutally killing children who could not keep up. Most survivors of the march (from Maine, Massachusetts and New York) were turned over to Canadian families as virtual slaves, some were later ransomed back to the colonies. The Indians never felt any guilt. Neither do I.

M/M,

As I don't watch TV (except when in the Orient)I can't vouch for Buchanan's points. But I doubt that he attacked Paladino's platform or message. I doubt that he defended the toothless NY Goopers against Paladino. I also suspect that Buchanan understands that a candidate can't get by just with message. He must be able to deliver that message convincingly. At the very least, he must not allow the opposition to knock him off message and put him on the ignominious defensive (exactly like the O'Donnel gal did in Delaware, using her funds to hire some stupid pricey consultant to tell her to say "I am not a witch", surely one of the dumbest lines in modern US political history.) In other words, a real politician, especially one using the "tough guy" persona, would not allow low-life hacks to puncture his chosen persona and reduce him to an abject mealy=mouthed girly-man, crying uncle when they gay-baited him. The libniks know exactly how to handle these wannabes. They reduce one to saying "I am not a witch," and the other "tough" dunce to plead, "I am not a homophobe." They reduced Paladino practically to a "progressive" who was recanting on marriage between a man and a woman. The shocked rabbi called it correctly. Paladino was so so shaken up by the liberal hacks, he hardly realized what he was saying after they gangbanged him in the hackstream press.

If this is what Buchanan meant, about Paladino, who could have won it all, then collapsing into the "worst politician," I agree 100% with Buchanan. Paladino did more than just betray the electorate who would have gotten behind him. He betrayed himself. The "tough guy" let himself be played. And I'll bet he knows it now, in the dead of night, when it's too late and the phone isn't ringing.

gringoman

While Libworld Hackstream continues it's old, old refrain, "She so duuuuuuuuuumb/Oh, let her run!", here's another reason why they must keep droning away....

DAILY BEAST COMMENTS//////Joanne38

Cryptoad, you are exactly right. Sarah is the only one I would trust. As it turns out she was the only one trying to warn people about the death panels that would happen. Obama is doing exactly that as we speak. No one else had the balls to inform the people on what Obama would do. He is putting in place now what doctors can treat and how. He's cutting billions from medicare. He would rather take Americans tax dollars to treat illegals and deadbeats than to allow us to have the best possible care with our own money. While he sent his cronies out to attack Sarah Palin as it turns out now she was exactly right all along. She knew what was coming long before anyone else did. This year they have even taken meds that work off of people's plans for cheaper ones that are fake and don't work. Be very careful what you take these days. The death panel is set up in many different ways here. They are telling the doctors what not to treat and how to set up counseling on why/how you should go ahead and end your life. Your care, your retirement, your money will then be given to those they insist on taking care of. This is how they plan on paying for the extra 30 million plus who will keep them voted in. Palin is anything but dumb and Obama is anything but smart when it comes to what is right and important in America. He doesn't know why America was so great. Palin did and still knows. Call us what you may dstack9781, but yeah we will take Palin over the other jerks who fall in line and don't have the balls to stand up for THE PEOPLE any day. No man could have taken the crap she has and still come out smiling and fighting back. I'll keep my money riding on Palin for sure. A lot of waste needs to be put in her "When hell freezes over list."

In case you missed it

Juan Williams hit out at Sarah Palin on "Fox News Sunday," saying she could not match President Obama intellectually.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/27/juan-williams-palin-intellectua l_n_801502.html

Is everyone now ready to thank Juan for instructing us on how mentally superior Obama is to Palin? Juan didn't have to guide us like this. He must have felt an urge? Perhaps a mission? And surely he believes what he's saying? Surely he's not just giddy from that new 2-million dollar contract Fox bestowed on him after he got the boot from NPR?

In fact, to prove his point, will Juan now call for Obama to stop hiding his college records?

Palin's records are not in hiding like the "superior" Obama's are. This is a fact, Juan, despite your Hackstream Media's ignoring the fact. Since Juan (not to mention a thousand little trolls) assures us of Obama's intellectual superiority, he would be willing to compare Palin's college transcripts with Obama's, no? (The trolls and the Soros workers will not, but perhaps Juan would?)

Juan, can you? Will you? Juan, are you willing to put Obama's college transcripts where your mouth is?

Juan....?....Juan.....?.....Yoo-hoo....!....Juan....?

Can anybody reach Juan and check out his 2-million dollar intellectual integrity?

Gringoman interprets PB's remarks as constructive in the sense that Buchanan was analyzing why Palladino lost the election.

Unfortunately i don't share this benign view of Buchanan who is all over the place and increasingly a lapdog of the KuntryKlub faction of the GOP.

Where I do agree with Gringoman is that Palladino was on track at the start and then he allowed the hounds unleashed upon him by both LIEberals and the NYS Republistablishment to throw him off course.

What a doggone shame!

We could have scored a momentuous upset there, One for the Ages.

One that would have forced the GOP in NYS to change FINALLY and thus the National GOP as well.

Which is why so many hounds were unleashed.

The problem, DJ, is that when the media mutts slammed Paladino for that "best" moment, he buckled. Like most every other pol, he could not stand up to the avalanche of bricks. They had him pleading that he was not a "homophobe" or "racist" yada-yada. In other words, he was only human, after all. "Only human" is no match for the snarling hounds of Libworld when it reveals it's inner fascist. When the going got rougher than it gets even for a successful businessman, the Tough Guy showed that he wasn't tough enough. He was only human. I'm sure he's a very good Dad and Grandad etc.

He'll have a long time to savor his "best politician" award. Libworld won't begrudge him that, now that they got Tough Guy out of their way (who, incidentally, only took a small fraction of the abuse that Sarah Palin, and her family, has weathered for two years.)

Also, Harry Wilson was winning the election for comptroller in a very tight race. Of course, when all votes were counted, the Democrat won. Why? Because the fix was in and everyone knows it.

Yup, the fix was in and there are double agents on both sides, or for the eternally stupid, both parties.

Gillibrand went from so-called "moderate" to ultra-lib faster than you can say PHONY the moment she got "elected". When in doubt, consider them to be libs pretending to be moderates.

The GOP is so focused on making deals that they fail to realize they are being played while the left is making deals while at the same time craftily moving the country ever-so-smoothly ever further to the left.

That way they get to make deals and loads of money and enjoy the good life while staying guilt-free and true to the Cause.

Look at their actiosn if you think i am making this up.

They are like moslems who go binging and whoring before an attack, so they can say to themselves they are merely doing it to stay "undercover".

The libs have their God Marx and Engels and all their hipper more recent incarnations like Fidel and Che plus a few moslem dictators they can worship.

The Godless GOP merely worships the Golden Calf.

They need to start to worship America instead of helping the lilliputian libs to wrestle down America. The libs HATE America and the KuntryKlubberz DESPISE us.

Great choice of "lesser evils"!

Memo the Repubs: The cupboard is getting awfully bare. There won't be anything left to sell out very soon!

Goopers are acting like the Indian Chiefs who sold Manhattan for 20 Bucks.

The Native Americans never let us forget what happened and Afro Americans always bring it up. If you're advising P. Peon to get over what happened to his ancestors 300 years ago, why aren't you advising those oter groups to stop the hatred.

Time for US to bring up what the moslems did not only to start the slave trade, but how they drove the Jews off the Arabian Peninsula, then went on a murderous rampage across the Middle East and into North Africa and Southern Europe!

We got GRIEVANCES!

I don't understand why they can't figure this out. Look at McCain. He panders to the illegals and they vote for Obama.

Yeah, but he gets to launch his RETARDED daughter on a political career. Notice the Lamestream treatment of Sarah Palin's daughters and compare that to how they are treating MegaHAM McAnus.

They go easier on the RINOS than on the Patriots.

besides Meghan is perfect for them in the Republican Party.

Never forget, the game is all about moving BOTH "parties" PROGRESSIVEly to the LEFT.

Meghan accomplished.
