Putting the US into a "prevent" posture, would also save money. What bothers me is Cheney's daughter, and their ilk, with a knee jerk reaction of always continuing to fight, even though it has gone on forever. It is not clear what we are doing there, how a cost-benefit analysis would support the effort, or how this is an important national priority. When they started this in the pre-Bush(W) era the situation was different. I am not hearing any new arguments for why this should continue as it has.

Stopping Chinese intrusion into the area is one possible cause, but ... isn't Afghanistan just a barely habitable wasteland?

/////The Germans get it. The Canadians get it. Billy Idol gets it.

Why don't the American Democrats get it?

Furnish your own answer/////

Okay. I will. What Democrat, OR Republican, wants to tell Americans--- especially those of the Government and union gravy--- the God's honest truth about big fat butts, how they got that way, and the Draconian Diet awaiting them?

Their Debt Bomb is ticking away from Greece to California and myriad points in between. Hear it? Tick tick tick. Now they can hear it even in Illinois, that gave unto us the Marxie man-child Obama, the one with the mouth. Unlike Socialist Sammy in DC, the States can't print 'money'....It's getting louder.....Tick-tick-tick.....Can you hear it?

Steele wasn't that successful in getting Republican candidates elected. I wonder if this will be an excuse to get him replaced before the November elections.

By calling Afghanistan "unwinnable," Steele dared to say what many think. He was bold, but was he really thinking? Was he just parroting what is now practically a cliche, and one which Libworld adores, as it helps set the stage for an ignominious American withdrawal, a la Vietnam, when Libworld and communists everywhere managed to humiliate the Capitalist Giant?

Steele, while appropriately PC for a high profile Republican (Pigmentally Correct)does not seem to be intellectually ready for the alternate plan proposed by the Gringo Advisory Board on this very site: NO abject withdrawal from Afghanistan. NO defeat. NO dishonorable tossing of allies to the wolves. But on the other hand, NO crazy massive US presence and hemmoraging of US blood and treasure.

Admittedly this is difficult for a nation so used to going from one extreme to the other, win or lose, black or white, puritanism or porn, pre-Civil Rights racism or today's Liberal Racism. The GAB plan calls for a drastically reduced but determined occupation force. No need to chase the chimera of "nation building" No need to wipe out every last Taliban (as if that were possible.)"Victory" in the WW II sense? Of course not. Defeat in the Vietnam sense? No way. You can call it "prolonged stalemate" if you want to get literal and politically unpopular. You can also call it "victory" in the one sense that "victory" is possible over there, thousands of years after Alexander the Great marched across limbo in that vast wilderness of rocks and clans, while today armchair warriors say "Let's bomb 'em back into the stone age!"

Maybe somebody on the national scene can articulate this much sense, even if Michael Steele, and all the nellies calling for "withdrawal," or the machos calling for 'victory' cannot.

B. Obama and the Democratic Party view taxes and spending as a tool to further a political agenda instead of viewing taxes and spending as a way to increase economic growth and wealth creation. It's the difference between socialism and capitalism. If the old Soviet Union taught us once and for all is that a planned economy by the government will never work to produce growth/jobs/wealth. It can't happen. It never will happen. Somehow the Democrats don't get that, or they do get it but prefer to advance a political agenda at the expense of economic growth.

It's tragic that a socialist redistribution economic policy is put above the economic prosperity of this country. We are running up trillions in debt at the same time living with double digit unemployment and a bleak future all for the sake of socialism.

An aside here. Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Mullah Obama and something tells me a looming Israeli strike against Iran's uranium-enrichment locations is on the agenda. Bibi, i hope you're following this site cause i gotta tell you. Anything you don't want Iran or Syria to know DO NOT mention to Barack Hussein Obama.

A surge in Afghanistan will put the odious Taliban into retreat, however, could it prevent an El Queda member from recruiting in Pakistan, and running a camp in Afghanistan in the future? How many people were involved in 9/11? There is always a place for opponents to meet. Even NYC bankers found Jekyl Island. Afghanistan was once, a favorable place. But later it could be Sudan, Yemen, Tunisia or Morocco.

The strategy should be sensibly defensive, with the use of intelligence gathering, and special forces to take out problem regions as needed.

For sure - no land war. And I doubt if there are enough solid citizens in Afghanistan to constitute
a central government that could control Afghanistan.

WE all know the dangers involved in stopping a war, even if it is called a conflict, and even if it is within our borders. Leaving Afghanistan is one thing, but could not a sitting president redirect the troops to another, more praiseworthy endeavor? How about taking on the drug cartels in Latin America?

True that some Arabs want all of us dead. Every year approximately 40,000 people die from drugs, half of which are from illegal drugs and the other half legal drugs. Compare this with 3000 dead in one American city. from a terrorist act years ago. The largest challenge to cooperation with our neighbor states, is the control of these maniac cartels. What is keeping
us from responding? Bankers and money-laundering? What is even easier, is stopping the unnecessary deaths from legal drugs. Why is our government doing little to interdict these dangers to our lives?

Here is yet another demonstration of sheer lunacy being played out by the racist anti-racists (read: anti-white-male racial-socialists) who currently run the country.

BHO Told NASA: Make Muslims Feel Good

From Al Jazeera

Bolden: I am here in the region – its sort of the first anniversary of President Barack Obama’s visit to Cairo – and his speech there when he gave what has now become known as Obama’s "Cairo Initiative" where he announced that he wanted this to become a new beginning of the relationship between the United States and the Muslim world.

When I became the NASA Administrator – before I became the NASA Administrator – he charged me with three things: One was that he wanted me to re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, that he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with predominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering."

Ummah,

Thanks for the clarification. Apparently it's still needed, judging by some of the recent posts here.

ps. Who will win the World Cup: Deutschland, Holland, Espanya or 80-1 Uruguay? (I know, Americans don't care, but everyone else does. Even Castrolandia (also known as Cuba) is fuming over the "imperialist" domination this time, with Argentina, Brazil and Ghana beaten in the semi-finals.)

Gringoman, IMHO Germany is unstoppable in this cup and they'll win it going away.

They lost the Eurocup Final in 2008 to Spain who had a better coach and were a better team than they are now, by the slimmest of margins, 0-1.

Now that Germany has turned into a juggernaut I don't see how Spain could possibly achieve the same result or better.

Holland will likely make the Final too, where Germany will beat them handily.
