A few months ago, Democrats voted to raise the national debt ceiling to $14.3 TRILLION, because $12.1 TRILLION just wasn't enough. They did the deed, then ran away, hoping the American people wouldn't notice.
Well, we noticed then. And we notice again today, because today is a day that will live in infamy. Today, we topped $13 TRILLION in debt. According to the ever-spinning national debt clock (www.USDebtClock.org), we hit record debt levels today. Per taxpayer, we each owe $117,975. The US debt to GDP ratio is a frightening and dangerous 90%. We're closing in on big, fat, Greek-levels of catastrophic debt.
And where is the President? Planning a long, Memorial Day getaway and raising money for Barbara "Don't Call Me Ma'am" Boxer. And where are Congressional Democrats? Voting for ANOTHER $160 BILLION spending bill---which is not paid for (except by raising your taxes.)
As we're seeing in Greece and elsewhere in Europe, nations that are this top-heavy with debt are only headed in one direction: collapse. Greece is fortunate because there is a European Union at least somewhat willing to pull its chestnuts out of the fire.
There will be no one to pull our chestnuts out of the fire. The Chinese and a few others are doing it now, but they're already getting mighty queasy about our fiscal situation, as well they should. They're not going to be around forever, and they're certainly not going to bail us out.
We're in this alone. And still, the Democrats party like it's boom times, and the president channels his best Alfred E. Newman: "What? Me, worry?"
