Today, Nancy Pelosi and the Gang of Lunatics who surround her unveiled a monstrous, 1,990 page health care "reform" bill. They did the deed on the west side of the Capitol, where presidents get sworn in, and which is usually open to the public. I say "usually," because it wasn't open to the public today. Today, it was closed off to you and me and our fellow Americans.
In order for Sister Pelosi to have her socialist government takeover ceremony uninterrupted by the unwashed masses, she had the Capitol Police put up metal fences.
I may be wrong about this, but I thought we still lived in a (relatively) free and open and democratic society, where input from the public was welcomed by those whom we hire (and pay) to represent us. They work for us...or do they?
It speaks volumes about this voluminous bill that when they announced it, the Democrats had to use METAL FENCES to keep us out. Metal fences are also used by Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, Kim Jong Il, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
In order to get into the blessed event, you needed to be on a special "guest list."
Is this health care "reform" or a night out at Bungalow 8?
"I'll have 2000 pages of bureaucracy and a cosmo!"
But first, you'll have to get past the metal fences.

I also think we owe Lou Dobbs a tribute for standing his ground, despite the fact he is threatened, and has shots fired at his home. We ought not cower and suppress our own right to speak out about issues we feel are important to our nation.

I do not want to monopolize the memo - however ..
We hear about deal making in Congress these days. I recall Obama waving around concessions from the drug companies as a starting point for health care reform. Did they cut a deal? Did Obama promise capital outlays for vaccinations, both foreign and domestic? It will not be long and we all will need rabies shots.

The administration would have us believe that today's annoucement that GDP grew 3.5% in the third quarter means a) we are out of recession, and b) the "stimulus" worked and they saved us from depression.
The numbers are "advance" numbers based on a lot of estimates. Actual numbers will be published 24 Nov.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis (Dep't. of Commerce) says this about the 3Q GDP:
"• Consumer spending turned up strongly. Spending on new cars and trucks was a big contributor,
reflecting the federal “cash for clunkers” program, which was in effect in July and August.
• Housing increased for the first time in 15 quarters.
• Inventory investment, exports, and government spending also added to growth."
On the first point, the government borrowed money from China (effectively) and our children to goose the automobile results.
On the second, the numbers reflect a baseline that was severely depressed, plus the sales due to first time tax credits. Again, where are those credits coming from: borrowed money?
On the third, the low dollar spurred exports, and government spending was up 11% in the Q2 and 8% in Q3. A depressed dollar is ultimately not good for the economy, but temporarily good for exports.
The net is, yes there was a bump in GDP, but not the kind of growth that is sustainable, especially when one considers 1) unemployment will remain at 10% through 2010, 2) the deficit will adversely affect private investment and raise uncertainity about taxes to pay for it.
Conservative economic principles have not been repudiated. The government is wrong.

CAPTURING AN OBAMA CZAR
Diversity Czar Mark Lloyd (The Man Of the Ban) Captured
March 6, 2011 - Mark Lloyd, the Marxist who was put in charge of the FCC by Barack Obama was captured today by the MRC Militias run by L. Brent Bozell. Lloyd is the man at the FCC who banned FOX News and talk radio at the start of the Obama purges in January. Bozell stated " It was an atrocity to freedom to have this committed Marxist, who envied Castro and Chavez, run our FCC. " Obama proved himself a tyrant with his little coup but we all knew over a year earlier who he was when he appointed Marxists and Communists to all positions of power in 2009. As P.J. O'Rourke said, "Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys." Mark Lloyd's trial is set for 3 weeks from today. DEBBIE SCHLUSSEL: The Muslim Arrests in Detroit
I’m glad the FBI raided and arrested these guys, but the fact is, they’re chump change and far less a threat than the organized, White Arabic Muslim community here (particular the Shi’ites). These men simply shouldn’t have been a priority. And though the feds and mainstream media are claiming these guys were going to perpetrate a terror attack on the 2006 Superbowl in Detroit, the criminal complaint and affidavit by Agent Leone says otherwise. It quotes Imam Abdullah saying he was asked to attack the Superbowl but declined because it would kill a lot of innocent people for nothing. That’s hardly a, “Wow, they were going to attack the Super Bowl.” Uh, no, they weren’t. So before you give the FBI a pat on the back, ask the FBI Michistan’s chief human-shawarma-sucker, FBI Special Agent in Charge Andrew Arena, why he’s hanging out with terrorist Imad Hamad’s daughters and looking the other way on multi-million dollar Hezbollah and HAMAS rings in his jurisdiction.
Oh, and ask him why he won’t say that Hezbollah is a bad organization and that it deserves to be on the terrorist list, instead only saying he doesn’t make the law? 300 U.S. Marines, Embassy officials, and other such American victims of Hezbollah–like Navy Diver Robert Stethem, Col. Rich Higgins, and CIA attache William Buckley–are spinning in their graves. The FBI is looking the other way on the vast Detroit-area network of their killers, and going for the easy headlines and quick convictions of a bunch of Black guys selling stolen power drinks.

Michael:
I was alluding to the growth of the GDP in my post of two days ago.
It seems that a growth in GDP is a good sign for the economy.
I have been too many years away from an economics classrom but the measure of GDP is C+I+G+E-m (consumption, investment, Gov't spending, exports, minus imports).something like that anyway.
When you say 'borrowing from China' doesn't that mean that China is investing in gov't securities? Wasn't the fear after the Sept crash that asian investments in US gov't instruments would dry up causing a deeper crisis in the US economy?
Homeowners should be thrilled that housing has increased.
As I also mentioned the US economy may rebound without a significant rebound in jobs in part because work has been outsourced abroad and partially because technology has taken over large areas of traditional employment.
Employment will rebound slower but the overall unemployment rate will level off at a higher percentage in recovery.
Your assessment that the government is wrong puzzles me. Wall St and the big banks have been indemnified for the mistakes they themselves created.
Other well regulated economies were harmed because that the creditworthiness of bundeled securites were misrepresented and the aggreived parties have to access to redress.
While the bailout looks obscene it did stave off economic collapse.
So yes, the USA took on huge debts to maintain the world economic system as recompense for not having the regulatory forsight to avert the crisis. But it also appears that the worsening effects may have abated.
The planet has a stake in seeing the US economic policy stabilize tha market which sould transcend the politics of the party in charge.
I'll hold off on a discussion of taxation until later.
Francophone to boot. I am impressed. You seem to buck the stereotype.

As an AMERICAN but of Irish lineage, I would personally build a Barbeque pit in the center of the freagin road between the Mosque and the Restaurant. Phil,
Your definition of GDP is correct. One quarter's GDP increase a recovery does not make, especially considering that the goverment is basically taking money from one citizen to give to another in the hope that the latter spends it. Or they are selling Treasuries (IOUs) to investors, including China, Japan, etc. and giving those borrowed funds to our citizens with the same hope.
At some time, those borrowed funds must be paid off. Historically, this was not a problem because our national debt was only 30% of GDP (except after the Great Depression) and growth helped us cover the repayment. Now debt is nearly 90% of GDP, so higher taxes are probably on the horizon. The combination of higher taxes and government borrowing means less private savings and investment, the two true engines of growth.
There was and is a fear China would stop investing in US securities--they were a large holder of Freddie and Fannie debt too. But over the long run it should be self-evident that is not wise to have a foreign government, especially a Communist one, being a net creditor to the United States.
I think employment can return to levels in the 5% range, perhaps not in industries that outsource overseas as you rightly observe, but in others that the private sector will invent if given the opportunity. GE and Intel announced large investments in the US this year which could set the pattern for a resurgence of hiring.
When I said "government is wrong" above, I was referring to the mistaken notion that stimuli actually stimulate. Sloshing borrowed money around does not have the same long term growth effect as encouraging permanent investment; something only smaller government and lower taxes can do. Hence, I am skeptical about the uptick in GDP which could be transitory.
Finally, one can make a plausible argument the US bailing out banks and taking over industrial concerns actually prolonged the recession because it misallocates funds that are even more dear in a downturn. A sudden shock and orderly divestment of AIG, GM, Lehman, and Bear would have brought faster to a saner environment, one I might add with more reasonable compensation for Wall Street, than TARP, receivorship, or nationalization--all started incidentally under Bush!
And yes, I love France, having grown up in Paris during my high school years. -- Thank you for the kind words.

The current strategy regarding Treasury seems to be 1)courting and representing the bankers, and 2) continuing the same basic strategic approach of the CFR, and 3) delaying to allay reforms to the
banking system that focus on national concerns.
They still believe unemployment, as a problem, will just resolve itself. The market will fix the banks as the government removes itself, after foreign markets stabilize. The role of government here is to insure the banks for the sake of confidence, where the CDS did not - to keep the international plan alive whatever the cost and no matter what its failures or duration, while Treasury's public exposure is mostly a fake discussion about bonuses. Treasury and the banks are well aware the public is opposed to this unbridled expansion, and have largely cut them out of the discussion.
To promote domestic production, all they need to do is remove linkage of banks to other international banks. Why are they delaying? Either these foreign markets will fly or they will not. At some point they need to consider domestic damage and changes which worsen over time despite the "stimulus". I believe there is no immanent reason for Treasury's position or the banks, other than their own international development plan. Politicians may claim this decreases international tension, but this is just an unsupported statement. Tension can be alleviated with a far smaller foreign investiture and this is only a matter of elective politics, One could make the arguement that international economic instability caused by undisciplined economic expansion is more dangerous than anything else.

More reasons why the U.nited N.azis must be KICKED OUT of the United Sates:
From Jihadwatch:
Just as Islamic terrorists appear to be ramping up their efforts within the United States, at the UN a new report recommends not the strengthening, but the repeal of counterterrorism laws.
In a bizarre report to the UN Human Rights Council, ostensibly on counterrorism but actually more intent on social engineering, a Finnish law professor who is a special rapporteur to the UNHRC, Martin Scheinin, examines what he calls the "complex relationship between gender equality and countering terrorism."
What does working for "gender equality" have to do with resisting Islamic jihad terrorism? Nothing whatsoever, but Scheinin is determined to change that. He calls on UN member states to "abandon the 'war paradigm'" and instead "enshrine the principles of gender-equality and non-discrimination in the design and implementation of all counter-terrorism measures." He demanded that the American "war on terror" be "actually responsive to the concerns of women, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex individuals in local contexts." Instead, apparently, of actually defending Americans from terrorists.

--
Sheer wackiness indeed.
Here's a relevant entry from over at Lawrence Auster's site:
WHY THE LEFT CANNOT SEE ITS OWN DOOM
"For those who haven't read it, I recommend my two part reply to reader Mark A. on the feminist and homosexual left's refusal to support Geert Wilders in his efforts to stop the growing power of Islam in the West. In my first reply, I argue that the left's overriding impulse is not to advance feminism and homosexual rights, but to destroy our "oppressive" society; and, since Islam is even more antithetical to our oppressive society than feminism and homosexual rights, the left welcomes Islam, even though Islam will oppress feminists and homosexuals.
Mark A. then asks how I reconcile that statement with my recent comment that "Everyone wants to be superior," i.e., that all groups want to be the dominant group. If the left wants to dominate, why would they willingly allow the West to be taken over by a religion that will crush the left? My answer is that liberals-leftists understand the world in terms of a liberal "script" that associates all evil with non-liberal whites; the script, focused exclusively on the evil of whites, makes it impossible for liberals and leftists to conceive of the idea that any non-Western or nonwhite group could be a threat to themselves. Only non-liberal whites can be a threat. The leftists are thus incapable of grasping the fact that their Long March to overthrow the oppressive white power structure and to Third-Worldize our society must lead to their own destruction as well."

President Hussein definatly knows more than he lets on. Whereas Michael is naive.
Liberalism is one of those nebulous terms. It can mean may things ranging from radical-leftism to bleeding-heart-liberalism. The former I dispise; the latter is only annoying. In BO's case, he is a rabid leftist/statist who feigns bleeding-heart-liberalism. MA regards himself conservative on economics, but he has a blind spot when it comes to judging Islam. That is: he seems to see the best in Orthodox Muslims' motivations regardless of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

He can't be THAT stupid." (-Ummah)

President Hussein definatly knows more than he lets on. Whereas Michael is naive.
Liberalism is one of those nebulous terms. It can mean may things ranging from radical-leftism to bleeding-heart-liberalism. The former I dispise; the latter is only annoying. In BO's case, he is a rabid leftist/statist who feigns bleeding-heart-liberalism. MA regards himself conservative on economics, but he has a blind spot when it comes to judging Islam. DJ,
Are you calling Mr. IATRC a bleeding-heart conservative?

OVARI, STOP KODDLING YOUR PET KANAKOOK!!! Take your "discussions" elsewhere. NOONE here cares about what you and the kooks have to say to each other.
Have some RESPECT!

'Pet Kanakook.' I like that. It sheds light on the art of patronizing. Maybe MA is trying to be a kind of good Samaritan with the PK, i.e. a sort of good Veterinarian?

Yes, Gringoman. Michael IS incontrovertibly a bleeding-heart conservative.. that is until he can prove two plus two doesn't equal four.

Nancy Pelosi's little private health care bill should only be enforcable against the people who she felt comfortable inviting to its unveiling. And I do mean against.

"LIEberalism is a cult based on collective suicide." - Ummah

in your DREAMS. With 20% of the public identifying themselves as conservative GOP and SHRINKING, there's only one group committing suicide around here.
And not so slowly either.

There is no one so droll and uninteresting than a self-stlyed "anarchist" living in THIS country; where, with a flick of a switch lights and heat come on, the refirgerator keeps your food fresh and well-built roads get you to a doctor or a State Park! In a word Mr. Anarchist---you are a PHONY pretending to have set yourself free from society w/government good and bad; this is food for thought for you next time you catch the bus....have a good one-----rick
