This meeting was more about Iran. The Saudis really don't want the power in the middle east to shift to Shia or Persians. The Saudis are Sunni, this is about the power shift in the region. Iran will be contained but I don't believe neutered. Why? We need the tension to create a balance a Ying and Yang. Otherwise the Sunnis will go on the offensive again, and feel free to bomb our homeland. The Sunnis are not threatened by Israel, they are "offended" by Israel...on the other hand they are "threatened" by a nuclear Iran. The Saudis want something out of this meeting or they wouldn't have attended, they wanted to send a message to Iran, that the Arab Countries are united

The situation in the Middle East has always been fragil and will continue to be that way. One terrorist with a strap-on bomb could end the negotiations. Hezbollah could decide (and probably will) to launch a few rockets and the negotiations would be off. The leadership in Palestine or Isreal could change and the negotiations would be off. Let's put it this way, the Chicago Cubs have a better chance of winning the World Series.

FK

Hey! Let's leave the Cubs out of this!

The choice of Annapolis for this Middle East "Peace Conference" is surprisingly appropriate, and of course the Lamestream will not tell you why. Monica's friend Frank Gaffne at least hinted at it, in pointing out how the new Naval Academy, in this era of the progressive Cultural Revolution, is known for rapes (another feature of the pc feminized military?)

We get a much more in-depth look from www.militarycorruption.com /(don't look for it even at Fox) operated by a Vietnam Alumni Asssociation (with gringomanic ties.) The header from a very recent report:

The natural state of this whole region is tribal sectarianism. Weak local leadership results in a cronically degraded situation. Oil only increases tension, and the environment in which they live also. I agree that long term solutions are the only ones plausible, and hence we should protect our precious oil (2bbls/day from Iraq), but also leave these factions to themselves, save busting up covens of terrorists.
If democracy is their destiny, the Arabs will find it for themselves !

I don't see how one could be optomistic about making peace with a people conditioned from birth to hate and destroy you.

From my viewpoint, pressure from Bush and the powerful Arab oil producing states will result in the production of an agreement to establish a Palestinian state on the land of the West Bank and possibly Gaza Strip by the end of 2008. After the agreement is implemented, the Arabs will gang up and try to destroy the rest of Israel one way or another. It will be the same result as when Israel pulled out of the Gaza Strip in exchange for nothing after the in over her head Secretary of State Rice pressured them to pull out.

As for Iran, it appears more and more each day that we will wuss out and appease a nuclear armed Iran in the hope the younger generation will overthrow the Mullahs.

The situation appears to be grim.

Monica,

The problem with Israel, is that both the Israelis and Arabs believe that the land is their birthright.
From the inception there had been bad blood between the children of Abraham--Isaac and Ishmael--and it continues to this day.

Hostility and bitterness runs deep on both sides and, no matter what compromises and concessions are made, unless there's a miracle, there will never be peace among those people.
The next scenario for peace is if Israel is wiped out; or clears out.
Should Israel ever lose a major military battle, we'd then see how much 'peace' their enemies want.
Seems as if Israel is losing the psychological battle, though.

So, we may conclude that the powwow in Annapolis is merely a farce and formality.

PS. The Palestinians are killing each other. Then how can they make peace with Israel, whom they hate even more bitterly?
Another thing, Palestinians (Philistines) are not direst descendants of Abraham, to whom the land was promised. So who or what are they?
'Tis a sorry mess!!

Ree

Charlie,

The Palestinians are of Arab descent, this is why Saudi Arabia as in the house of Saud supports them.

The Sunni strong man, who was threatening everyone in the Region, Saddam is gone. I don't think the Sunni factions, are feeling as strong as they used to! They have bigger worrys. IRAN specifically a nuclear capable IRAN, who are Shia and Persian. This was part of the stratgey to shift the power away from the Sunnis in the Region...the Sunnis the people, who flew planes into our buildings. Saudi Arabia has to worry about Iran now so their militants, are going to have less time planning their next attack on us. I listened to Mike Huckabee's position on this issue, he didn't support a two state solution from what I could tell.

FK

Look on the Sunni side and avoid stepping in Shiite.

charlie

Ree,

Thanks for the info and update.

Agreed that the Saudis are afraid of Iranian Shias; but we must not forget that Saddam, who was Sunni, also posed a serious threat to them.

The Muslims have their differences, but the principal thing in which they're united, is their hatred of Israel.
I would think that Iran's main focus at this time, is the destruction of Israel.
If they succeed in that, then the rulers of the Saudis, as well as their neighbors, had better watch out. The mullahs may have designs of resurrecting the ancient Persian empire.
(Remember, Saddam also thought that he was the modern Nebuchadnezzar)

FK

Did Nebuchadnezzar also not have WMD's?
