Today we celebrate two of our greatest presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln: men of extrordinary character who guided this extraordinary nation through its founding and through its darkest hour. As we contemplate how we move ahead to defend this country's exceptional freedoms, let's keep in mind two quotes from these heroes of the Republic:
George Washington:
"The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty, and the destiny of the republican model of government, are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally staked, on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people."
Abraham Lincoln:
"We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth."
Believe in America. Fight for her. Especially when it's hard to do so.
