With all of the horrors swirling around us---higher taxes, high unemployment, ObamaCare kicking in, anemic economic growth, $16.4 trillion in debt and climbing, inflation poised to take off---I thought it would be nice to kick off the new year with some good news instead.
A few years ago, I got to know Senator Mark Kirk of Illinois, the Republican who---against long odds---won Barack Obama's old Senate seat in a deep blue state. He is a good and decent man, a Navy reservist, an American patriot, and someone I am proud to call my friend.
A year ago, he suffered a massive stroke. After many months of intensive rehabilitation, he arrived back at work today on Capitol Hill to a warm welcome by members of both parties. Check out the incredible photos of Senator Kirk walking up the Senate steps today: http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/senator-makes-triumphant-return-to-congress-after
He also mentioned that when he experienced the stroke, he was greeted by angels. Read how the devastating stroke deepened his faith in God here: http://www.wnd.com/2013/01/sen-mark-kirk-saw-angels-following-stroke/?cat_orig=faith
In an era of far too much bad news, it's wonderful to finally see some good news. Bravo, Senator Kirk! We're glad to have you back. God bless you.
