Like most of you, I've been bombarded with emails and tweets and phone calls and texts from so many people expressing utter despair at the results of Tuesday's election. It is really quite something to read and hear the incredible sadness of so many people heartbroken NOT over the loss of a political candidate or party, but over the loss of their country.
Of the many poignant messages I've received, one from a treasured friend stands out. She wrote:
"Crazy----America was the best idea the world has ever produced....and we just threw it away."
Powerful words, for three reasons: 1) the reminder that America is not simply a physical place but an IDEA based on individual freedom; 2) the sense of resignation that a slim majority has voted to toss it out in favor of the bondage of statism; and 3) the use of the past tense ("was") to describe America.
Of all the messages sent to me, that's the one that moved me from grief to anger. America IS the greatest idea the world has ever produced, and WE DON'T HAVE TO PUT UP WITH the choice made by the moronic other half of the country to throw it away.
Shrug our shoulders in resignation? Commit to statism and redistributionism forever? Say goodbye to American exceptionalism? "Well, the Constitution was nice while it lasted and it had a good run, but sayonara!" OH HELL, NO!
America----THE BEST IDEA THE WORLD HAS EVER PRODUCED----can be saved, and she is worth saving!
THIS IS WHY WE FIGHT! Time to suit up again.
Let's roll.
