Time to mobilize again. The Senate is considering an outrageously expensive, largely unpaid-for highway bill that will blow a big hole in the deficit. They are also considering aid to Egypt, which is now, for all intents and purposes, run by the rabidly anti-American Islamists of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Sending more money to Egypt would just be repeating the same stupidity of pouring money into Iraq and Afghanistan and thinking enough money will make them change their traditional culture.

To stop funding roads might not be such a bad idea as it might seem on first thought. The Constitution authorizes Congress to build Post Roads, but does not require it. With the internet there really isn't that much need for travel. We are broke and need a time of starting over. We have grown soft with easy credit and the luxury of stuff coming from far away. That is a luxury, not a real need. People who think they really have to travel can get all terrain vehicles or trail bikes. Some people would actually need to travel to work to maintain things worth keeping such as a potable water and sewer system and electricity. Most of the rest could work from home on their computers. We could do away with the Department of Education and school buildings and let kids be taught online. Since there aren't jobs for them, if some things really needed to be moved, they could be put to work backpacking.

Rush Limbaugh let drop an interesting fact the other day. The commercial air travel industry as a whole has never had a profitable year, only the occasional individual company. It is an illusion sustained by the government. Doing away with air travel also and the waste of the TSA would be worthwhile. Some might think it would be a terrible thing to go back to simpler times, but with running water, flush toilets and electricity it wouldn't really be a bad life. People would be healthier eating locally grown foods. Most things we have become accustomed to buying from stores can be made or bartered for. We don't really have a lot of choice since we are broke and more government stimulus won't work.
