THE GREAT VAGOP MELTDOWN

(gringoNOTE: or the latest in RINOSAUR plan to anoint Willard)

For those coming in late, let me summarize*: both Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry have been excluded from the Virginia Republican primary by the Virginia GOP. This has placed the VA GOP in an awkward situation, given that: they have excluded the current national and Virginian front-runner from their own ballot; have currently no write-in option on the ballot; do have an open primary that anyone can vote in; and generally have created an environment peculiarly suited for conspiracy theories involving Mitt Romney (and ones that won’t contain the word ‘Mormon’ anywhere in their description, by the way). The current defenses to all of this are “rules are rules” and “any campaign that couldn’t follow them are by definition poor campaigns:” I will leave it to the individual reader to decide just how either argument will play in, say, Peoria; I am frankly of the opinion that the above defenses are well-suited towards reassuring Romney and/or Paul voters – and will do very little to persuade the other 60-65% or so of likely Republican primary voters.

But since I’m telling Mitt Romney what won’t help his situation, it kind of behooves me to tell him what might.

There is one good way for the Romney campaign to get at least a little distance between themselves and the situation, and it involves the number of signatures. The VA GOP required 10K signatures (with 400 from each district); but they also declared that anyone who brought in 15K (with 600 from each district) would not need to have those signatures verified. If I was advising the Romney campaign right now, I would be telling them to publicly go to the VA GOP and make arrangements to have Romney’s votes certified anyway. This would allow them to simultaneously show evidence that the campaign had nothing to hide and to subtly reinforce the point that they got all of these signatures in the first place. Doing this will not kill the rumors, but it’ll provide a better defense than “the rules are the rules.”

That’s the best I can do for Team Romney. Whether they take that advice or not is up to them.

A Country in Denial About Its Fiscal Future
By Robert Samuelson

WASHINGTON -- There are moments when our political system, whose essential job is to mediate conflicts in broadly acceptable and desirable ways, is simply not up to the task. It fails. This may be one of those moments. What we learned in 2011 is that the frustrating and confusing budget debate may never reach a workable conclusion. It may continue indefinitely until it's abruptly ended by a severe economic or financial crisis that wrenches control from elected leaders.

We are shifting from "give away politics" to "take away politics." Since World War II, presidents and Congresses have been in the enviable position of distributing more benefits to more people without requiring ever-steeper taxes. Now, this governing formula no longer works, and politicians face the opposite: taking away -- reducing benefits or raising taxes significantly -- to prevent government deficits from destabilizing the economy. It is not clear that either Democrats or Republicans can navigate the change.

gringoNOTE: ...er...uh, the Euro Welfare states have tried. Higher taxes. Higher than in US. They tried socialized medicine. Like what Obama or likely the white Obama will bring here. They tried minimal military expenditure. Much lower than in the US, which has been carrying the load for them. They tried taxing the rich. Higher than in the US.They tried general strikes by unions. More than in US...Results: The widespread view that the Euro Welfare Zone is perilously close to the Big Implosion. But will that stop the Obamunists from wanting the Euro Welfare way here? You're kidding, right?

gringoman

THE TAX HACKS

Any resolution of the budget impasse must repudiate, at least partially, the past half-century's politics. Conservatives look at the required tax increases and say: "no way." Liberals look at the required benefit cuts and say: "no way."

Each reverts to scripted evasions. Liberals imply (wrongly) that taxing the rich will solve the long-term budget problem. It won't. For example, the Forbes 400 richest Americans have a collective wealth of $1.5 trillion. IF THE GOVERNMENT SIMPLY CONFISCATED EVERYTHING THEY OWN, AND TURNED THEM INTO PAUPERS, IT WOULD BARELY COVER THE ONE TIME 2011 DEFICIT OF $ 1.3 TRILLION. Conservatives deplore "spending" in the abstract, ignoring the popularity of much spending, especially Social Security and Medicare.

So the political system is failing. It's stuck in the past. It can't make desirable choices about the future. It can't resolve deep conflicts.

But, it's weird that the countries that are in trouble follow the practices of the RIGHT..

Greece hates taxes and Italy followed Bush's philosophy of borrowing.

Jay

There are European countries that have higher taxes than we do. And, are in better postion than we are.

While we have one of the lowest taxes.

http://www.businesspundit.com/12-countries-with-the-highest-lowest-tax-rates/

Jay

And, why taxing the rich won't solve the whole problem.

The CBO has stated that if Obama hadn't extended the Bush's Tax cuts. There would be 2 billion more to help pay the debt.

Republicans May Be Dealing Obama a Winning Hand: Albert R. Hunt
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-12-25/republicans-may-be-dealing-obama-a-winning-hand-albert-r-hunt.html

Job Approval

The best indicator, Obama re-election doubters say, is the president’s own job approval, now hovering around 46 percent, though several new polls have him inching upward. By the end of 1979, Jimmy Carter had gotten a bounce because of a rally around the president after Americans were taken hostage in Iran; within four months he was back down in the 30s. Obama is doing better than George H.W. Bush at this stage and not as well as Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

Today, a plethora of polls shows both parties are held in low regard by the electorate, but the Republicans consistently do worse. They have been on a steady decline throughout this year. The explanation Republican politicians give for this slide is instructive. National politicos say congressional Republicans are to blame; on Capitol Hill, there’s a lot of finger-pointing at the presidential candidates.

Tea Party Overreach

The public, polls show, resents an overreach by Tea Party Republicans this year. Especially damaging was the brinkmanship on the debt ceiling, which seemed to indicate a willingness to let the U.S. government default on its obligations. Currently, even some conservatives are stunned at how the inept House Republicans allowed Obama to run circles around them on the payroll tax cut, forcing them to capitulate.

From a congressional perspective, it’s the debates among the presidential candidates that are the culprit. Asked about the decline in the party’s image, Representative Pete Sessions of Texas, the head of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said the “brand-name of Republican is drawing a lot of attention and focus because of the presidential candidates.”

WALTER RUSSELL MEAD: China Rail Fail: 42% Spending Cut in Bullet Train Meltdown. “The Panda Lobby, the pundits and policy wonks who want the US to imitate China’s state capitalism, has long celebrated what it claims to be China’s far sighted and effective approach to industrial policy. China, the Panda pundits tell us, will own the future because of its courageous subsidies to green technology and high speed rail. The meltdown of the Chinese solar industry has been widely reported; now comes word that the rail program is also in trouble. . . . Those of us who remember the short lived but intense Sushi Lobby, the Americans who thought the US needed to imitate the brilliant success of Japanese state capitalism back in those halcyon days of the 1980s when the grounds of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo were estimated to cost more than the entire state of California, will be waiting to hear how the Panda pundits explain the high speed rail meltdown.” Actually, back in the day we called them the Chrysanthemum Club.

The essence of liberal society: treason

Below is an abridged version of December 2009 entry, "How whites become traitors to whites":

Mark Richardsonwrites about the liberal two-step that turns whites against whites (and also men against men). Here's how it works. Whites accept the leftist claim that whites are oppressive as a race. But once this declaration of collective guilt has been issued, individual whites who aspire to prominence in society find themselves deprived of moral status, since they are part of this oppressive white race. How does an individual white win back his moral status and resume his rightful role as a leader of society? He does it by breaking ranks with other whites and announcing that he is not like those other whites. He is not oppressive, exploitative, bigoted, exclusionary, and narrow-minded. To the contrary, he is egalitarian, supportive, compassionate, and inclusive, and nothing human is alien to him. Once he has made this leap to liberal virtuecrat, his social and career advancement henceforth depends on his being an enemy and a judge of his fellow whites.
Richardson's analysis complements my idea of the liberal script by which liberal society operates ... Once the articulation of the white population into liberals and non-liberals has occurred, the action of the liberal whites in exposing, deriding, condemning, expressing contempt for, and marginalizing the non-liberal whites becomes the central moral drama of the society.

Richardson's scenario ... shows how the liberal whites became liberals. They did it in the act of accepting the leftist claim that whites are guilty, and then in separating themselves morally from other whites by declaring that they are not like them, and by committing themselves to the cause of extirpating white discrimination from society.

Remember, at different times the same whites can be assigned to the "liberal" or the "non-liberal" role in the script. The script has nothing to do with reality, but with symbolism. Notice, for example, how Republicans, instead of reacting indignantly when they are absurdly accused of excluding blacks from the Republican Party, accept the charge, and commit themselves anew to doing much more to attract blacks to the party. In effect the Republicans, who in reality are liberal and non-racist, accept their assigned role in the liberal script as non-liberal, racist whites. The liberal script, by which liberalism dominates the society, cannot continue to function unless the "non-liberal" whites voluntarily accept, or at least fail to protest energetically, their assigned role as racists.

Richardson's scenario also sheds light on the perennial issue of whether liberals are guilty or not. Whenever the subject of liberal guilt comes up, someone will invariably point out that liberals are not really guilty, but the opposite: they're wildly enamored of themselves. This is true, but, if so, what then becomes of liberal guilt? And how did this situation come about? The answer is that it came about by whites (1) accepting a collective white guilt, then (2) individually asserting their own individual virtue as compared with the general run of guilty whites. In the liberal script, the mass of non-liberal whites are guilty, while the select liberal white is not guilty but infinitely worthy and self-congratulatory. However, even though the white liberal, the protagonist in the liberal script, is not himself guilty, white guilt is what the script is about, namely the constant ascription of guilt to the generality of whites by the good whites.

Hey, brainless!

When I first came to the memo. People always said how they hated Huffblo. said, it was too liberal and such.

But, some time back, Longrifle said he saw more responses by conservatives than he did by liberals.

So, unlike Conservative blogs. Liberals don't care who posts on their sites?

For, conservatives are not man enough to take other's viewpoints? Maybe it will confuse them and such!

xbjllb

Jay- the very fact that they need to so vehemently proclaim their "non-racism" is more than enough proof that, not only have WE proven them racists, but THEY, THEMSELVES have proven it beyond all shadow of any doubt.

"The truth, DJ, is that these vicious white liberal racists like Troll J and his back-up, Troll X, are as vile as any lyncher from the old South. The dirty little secret: they have utter contempt for blacks. Blacks are intensely aware of the black crime problem. How not? They're the main victims of it. Most blacks want something done about it. The minority of the minority, the Reverend Race Baiters etc, profit from it and rouse their rabble for power and profit. They also drown out all the blacks who want authority to clamp down and expose the problem. You wouldn't know it from these revolting white liberal fascists like the troll dreck at this site. It's no coincidence that such scum gravitate to the Democrats, who have always been the masters of race-baiting. True, Dems used to specialize in race-baiting blacks, and they did it as well as any Nazi. Now, they just reverse the gears, add a few adaptations here and there, and Presto! The thugs have got them the new racism, in which you race-bait whites for profit and power!

It is sooooooo transparent! I'm constantly amazed that more Americanos still don't seem to get it. Most Americans have far less to do with racism than most of the countries in the world today, yet they let these little liberal fascist pissants put them on the defensive. I don't get it. Or I do get it and it tells me too much about the mentality today. I blame the Republicans, to a large degree, and the PC Police, who threaten anybody who steps out of line. But the Republicans are supposed to be the opposition. Why are they so girly-man at unmasking these liberal racist swinebots? Or does one even have to ask, after seeing how a Republican Princess lets such low-life trolls ply their filthy wares at 'conservative' Monicamemo? It doesn't matter whether these liberal fascist thugs here are just aggressive psychopaths, or in compis mentis and on assignment. Objectively it amounts to the same thing. This is prog troll trash, defiling a conservative site. Why? Because they can." - Gringoman

===JOHN HAWKINS////Mitt Romney was a moderate governor in Massachusetts with an unimpressive record of governance, who left office with an approval rating in the thirties, and whose signature achievement was a Hurricane Katrina style disaster for the state. Since that's the case, it's fair to ask what a Republican who's not conservative and can't even carry his own state brings to the table for GOP primary voters. The answer is always the same; Mitt Romney is supposed to be "the most electable" candidate. This is a baffling argument because many people just seem to assume it's true, despite the plethora of evidence to the contrary.

JOHN HAWKINS////4. All of Mitt's primary advantages disappear in a general election: It's actually amazing that Mitt Romney isn't lapping the whole field by 50 points because he has every advantage. Mitt has been running for President longer than the other contenders. He has more money and a better organization than the other candidates. The party establishment and inside the beltway media is firmly in his corner. That's why the other contenders have been absolutely savaged while Romney, like John McCain before him, has been allowed to skate through the primaries without receiving serious scrutiny.

Yet, every one of those advantages disappears if he becomes the nominee. Suddenly Obama will be the more experienced candidate in the race for the presidency. He will also have more money and a better organization than Mitt. Moreover, in a general election, the establishment and beltway media will be aligned against Romney, not for him. Suddenly, Romney will go from getting a free pass to being public enemy #1 for the entire mainstream media.

If you took all those advantages away from Romney in the GOP primary, he'd be fighting with Jon Huntsman for last place. So, what happens when if he's the nominee and suddenly, all the pillars that have barely kept him propped up in SECOND place so far are suddenly removed? It may not be pretty.
