How Perry Could Prove Patriotic Immigration Reform Credentials--Recall TX Legislature

By Patrick Cleburne on September 20, 2011

"The Perry people must have been whooping it up in Austin at the end of June. Despite coming into town with towering Republican majorities and clear mandates to act on the Texan immigration disaster, the legislature adjourned having done - nothing! Even “Sanctuary Cities” were saved. (The pleasant-sounding term masks the evil of local jurisdictions willfully blocking the enforcement of Federal immigration laws.) Nothing like the Arizona legislation - mandating that local law enforcement officers enforce the Federal laws - got anywhere near passage.

Perry’s wealthy supporters were happy and so no doubt was he....

Latinos in Texas vote Democrat at a ratio of 2:1.

Given current demographic trends, in less than 10 years Latinos comprise 47% of the electorate; blacks will comprise 16%; other non-whites will comprise 6%, leaving a white population at only 31% as opposed to the 45% it is today.

Given those numbers does anyone think Texas will be a "red state" come 2020?

Does anyone here understand WHEN the G.O.P. loses Texas's electoral votes what that means to the prospects of the G.O.P. ever winning the White house again?

Just askin'.

Issa to launch probe of Obama actions on Solyndra, LightSquared
By Justin Sink - 09/20/11 09:55 AM ET

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said Tuesday that his committee plans to investigate government loan programs to private corporations in light of allegations of improper dealings between the White House and failed energy company Solyndra and wireless start-up LightSquared.

"I want to see when the president and his cronies are picking winners and losers… it wasn't because there were large contributions given to them," the chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee said Tuesday morning on C-SPAN.

---------------

Buck,

The issue is NOT how hard they work, it's who they vote for that matters. Clearly Latinos vote Democrat at a ratio of at least 2:1 ... and that's not going to change, at least not in our lifetimes anyway.

gringoman

Gringoman,

Bachmann's personality and gaffe prone style aside, the issue is Perry's deliberate circumventing of the legislative process by mandating Gardasil vaccines for all 12 year old girls - opt out notwithstanding. Moreover, the obvious crony capitalism between Perry and the Merck lobbyist (who happens to be Perry's former chief of staff) at the center of it. Sarah Palin gets it. Sarah sees the stinkin' corruption surrounding the Gardasil issue in no unambiguous terms. Why don't you, Gringoman?

Posted by: DJ | September 20, 2011 at 12:35 PM

The reason, DJ, is because you practically make it a non-issue. i.e. I already posted the respected conservative journalist above (not some Internet anonymity) who did his homework and showed how Bachmann deliberately lied about the Gardasil issue and vaccines. You don't even try to dispute Morrissey on the facts. Instead you go on about Bachmann's "gaffe prone style". So tell me, DJ, if Bachmann's corruption is just about her "gaffe prone style," why isn't Perry's alleged corruption likewise, especially since he, unlike Bachmann, admitted to a "mistake." A "mistake," as you may know, is a synonym for "gaffe". Perry admitted to his Gardasil "mistake." I'm still waiting for Bachmann's owning up to her "mistakes"---cited specifically by Ed Morrissey---in her attempt to get back in the running by jumnping on Perry like a mad housewife. Or maybe she has fessed up and I missed it? If so, I invite you to post it here. I'll be very interested in seeing it.

Meanwhile, I'll leave you to your definition of "corruption" when it applies to Bachmann: "just a gaffe prone style."

BTW, re Bachmann's background as a "tax attorney." I heard that what she really did was work for the IRS. Know anything about that, DJ?

And what do you think of Ed Rollins, a seasoned political pro, Ronald Reagan background etc, who was working for Bachmann and now calls her "a one state candidate"? Is Rollins possibly a Karl Rove secret agent? I don't know, but I'm always willing to hear a conspiracy theory---if it's good.

DJ

Gringoman,

I know you want to make this about Bachmann but for clarity purposes let's leave Bachmann completely out of it and concentrate on what Perry actually did and how Sarah Palin reacted to it. Did Sarah absolve Perry of his attempted wrongdoing? The answer is a big fat NO! Hence the Gardisal issue and the attendant crony capitalism connected to it continues to be, and always WILL be an issue. It will especially be one that will be used by the DemonRATS as a club to pound Perry to pieces if he becomes the GOOPer nominee..

thebuckstopshere

Gman, I have stated b4, Bachmann should have run her mouth from her seat....now if the dynamics of the race stay the same WWBD? endorse the guy she just bashed the sh*t out of nationally or go with the gooper fav obamalite? Okay, DJ, you want to tell us about Sarah Palin? So let's.

Assume, for a moment, that Perry will be the GOP nominee for President. If he is. I predict that Sarah Palin will not only back Perry, but back him enthusiastically.

In that situation, Perry as the nominee, what do you think Palin will do, DJ?

gringoman

Ummah,

What's your reaction to Perry on the following? Yes, I refer to the "weak in debate, soft on Islam" Rick Perry. We can excuse DJ from reacting, since it's looking like he will write-in Michelle Bachmann if Perry is the nominee.

(WSJ) — Texas Gov. Rick Perry, speaking in New York as the United Nations General Assembly was convening, launched a broadside against President Barack Obama, asserting that the president’s “naïve, arrogant, misguided and dangerous” foreign policy had brought Israel and the Palestinians to a crisis over Palestinian statehood.

It was one of the most strongly worded foreign policy speeches of the 2012 Republican nomination race so far. Mr. Perry said the Obama administration had appeased “the Arab Street at the expense of our own national security interests” and had fumbled an opportunity to overthrow the regime in Iran. He accused the president of “isolating and undermining Israel” at every turn.

(h/t Buck////http://weaselzippers.us/2011/09/20/perry-rips-obamas-%E2%80%9Cnaive-arrogant-misguided-and-dangerous%E2%80%9D-anti-israel-policies-time-to-stop-our-appeasement-toward-the-palestinians/

PAGING UMMAH

(cont'd) RICK PERRY/////He called for the United States to “reconsider” the $4 billion in assistance the country has provided the Palestinians over the last 17 years. He said the U.S should close the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s office in Washington if the UN General Assembly votes this week to recognize a Palestinian state.

“It is time to change our policy of appeasement toward the Palestinians to strengthen our ties to the nation of Israel, and in the process establish a robust American position in the Middle East characterized by a new firmness and a new resolve,” he said.

Posted by: gringoman | September 20, 2011 at 04:48 PM

------------

O f course Palin would support Perry as I'd expect her to do. She's a loyal team player. I also expect Bachmann to support Perry if he's the nominee.

Incidentally Bachmann is not my first choice for pres. She never was. However, I like her much better than Perry for the reasons I've already stated.

In any event, I think Perry can't win in a head to head contest with the Long legged Mack Daddy. But then again its way too early to make predictions about who the nominees will be. For all we know, come Nov 2012, it could be a contest between Hillary and Sarah. Stranger things have happened....

Buck,

I suspect you're right. And rest assured, you're not the only one who sees Bachmann like this. I liked the gal a lot. But as everybody who's ever been to war knows, that's in some ways the ultimate test of what you are and what you are not. This competitive campaign has in some ways the same pressure as a real battlefield. Those with eyes to see could see how Bachmann reacted under the extreme pressure of trying to make a comeback in the polls against the Big Guy (in the polls) Rick Perry. (Notice how she didn't bother getting nearly as vicious with Romney. She knew who she had to try to bring down. And she showed her mettle, or lack of it, in the way she went about it. She had every right to try to bring Perry down in a brilliant or classy way. She muffed it. She showed millions who were watching that under that pressure she succumbed to borderline Female Hysteria (the POOR baby who got vaccinated, boo-hoo-boo-hoo---with her crazy statistic about the brain-damaged child that a doctor later showed was infinitesmally meaningful, and DJ will say was just another "gaffe" and cop out of the "opt out")

I'm sure that I'm not alone in being disappointed in her, since I really liked how she jumped on Obamacare with all that tenacity. But after what she revealed with her Gardasil freak-out, people will even wonder how effective she'd even be against Obamacare. Perry did absolutely the right thing in keeping cool and just staring at her--and she didn't even look at him as she was almost shrieking. Her die-hard fans think that made Perry look weak, as if he should have freaked back at her. They even seem to think that Karl Rove is manipulating the polls that show her fading fast.

Alas, poor Michelle, we adored her well at one time. I can still admire her for trying to play with the big boys. It's a rough game. And of course SLIME would never pet her like they will Mrs. Bubba, one of their Ivy League own. She gave it her all. Most Americans, I include conservatives, have come to the conclusion that her all is not enough, not for POTUS. We have too much of the inadequate in that office already.

DJ

Gringoman et al,

Here's the YouTube clip of the segment of the debate where Bachmann and Santorum pressed Perry on the Gardasil issue. Bachmann didn't look hysterical to me. Not one bit. In fact Santorum was the one who looked heated. But that's just MY opinion.

So, bye bye to all predators.
Tuna is about wiped out. But, you want to make them fished to extinction! This "self suicide" is ridiculous"

Funny how when they brought the wolves back to Yellowstone. People cried it would kill all the wildlife there. Instead, it made it healthier. Fishing for food is fine. But, fish whole populations to extinction. And, therefore, destroy your livelyhood.

IF, ANYTHING, THAT SHOWS STUPIDITY!

The Real people? You were a commercial fisherman.
Several years ago, when you were out there fishing. And, if you saw a Lift-On, Lift-off ship go by. What people call containerships. If, you had waved to it. You might have seen me waving back.

DJ,

I need to know a little more about where you're coming from, besides the state of Michigan and demographics.

1. Do you know ABOUT Texas and its very extensive border, which is like absolutely nothing in Michigan? Or do you know Texas from having spent time there?

2. My understanding of border control is that it's a Federal responsibility. As far as I know, Perry, unlike Bush, has never had federal power vested in him. He even went on record again as stating that Washington would not give the assistance needed to effectively police the border.

ps Michael "Borders Language Culture" Savage re-affirmed again today his support for the guy who makes your skin crawl. Savage: "We don't get everything we want from Perry, but we get 70%."

You're not ready to boycott Savage?
