"WASHINGTON — Congressional Republicans this week added amendments to a spending bill that would knock out environmental protections for air, water and wilderness.

Among the amendments, which fill hundreds of pages, are ones that would block the Environmental Protection Agency from limiting hazardous pollutants at power plants, from studying whether the farm herbicide atrazine has health hazards and from tightening rules on toxic coal ash. Many of the amendments would strip the agency of funds to carry out pollution restrictions that industries have fought.

Tea party backers in the House of Representatives support the provisions. They could win support from other Republicans and pass the GOP-majority chamber this week. The Senate, where Democrats have an edge, is likely to block most of them. Even so, the amendments reveal how far many House Republicans are prepared to go in trying to stop environmental regulations.

A bipartisan poll released Wednesday suggested that a large majority of Americans strongly oppose such efforts, particularly where air pollution is concerned. The survey, sponsored by the American Lung Association and conducted by two polling firms, one Republican and one Democratic, found that 69 percent of voters favored the EPA updating the Clean Air Act to put stricter limits on air pollution, 26 percent opposed it and 5 percent had no opinion or didn't answer.

An amendment by Rep. John Carter, R-Texas, would block money for the EPA to enforce a new rule that will cut toxic emissions of arsenic, cadmium, lead and other pollutants from cement plants. The toxic pollutants are linked to cancer, respiratory illness and other health hazards. The rule also would reduce emissions of soot, which is linked to heart attacks and lung diseases, including asthma."

The whole country will become a nation of "cough" "Cough" people.

DJ

DJ, I appreciate your sarcasm, but an answer would also be good.

As for myself, I honestly don;t think i could bring myself to pull the lever for that traitorous commie POS so I might just go fishin' on election day.

-----------------------------

Ummah,

If the GOP puts up another "moderate", I will vote for a third party candidate like I did in the last presidential election. The last time around, I couldn't bring myself to vote for POS McAnus. I found him to be WAY too repulsive. However, Palin's presence on the ticket almost persuaded me to hold my nose and vote for him ... but my better judgement overrode. I ended up voting for Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party.

But it really dosen't matter who runs for pres this time around. I truly beleive America as we knew it is FUBAR.

 M/M

M/M,

Some indicators that The People are calling Albany and G.O.P. maybe is finding its backbone. I underline "maybe." Governor "Subprime" was supposed to have closed the deal for Nannyberg and the Pogwessive Paymasters by Friday, then Monday, and now ir's Teusday, still no sell-out to the Gay Mafia and its socialist collaborators.
______________________________

People are very vocal, which is why I won't stop talking about it. There are politicians on Facebook and I launched my "Hold Your Nose and Vote Democrat" strategy so the politicians know how angry we are. The theory, which applies for Huntsman too, is that we REFUSE to be used anymore by the RINOs. We have MORE respect for Nancy Pelosi than we do for the RINOs and consider the RINOs the "cause of all evil" (illegal immigration, TARP, Obama, etc...). If you vote for a RINO, you get a Democrat, but if you vote for a Democrat, you get a Democrat and you can VOTE A RINO out.

Meanwhile, the left starts seeing you're point of view. In 2009, they called us racists for opposing TARP. Now, they "get it". They are starting to see the truth about Obama. Let them work against all these policies. Much easier.

 M/M

Ditto! So vote Democrat and shove LIEberalism down their throats until they reject it.

DJ

"The poll says 57% OPPOSED to gay marriage 32% In favor and 11% didn't vote or didn't know. Most people are opposed but the GOVERNMENT is trying to "shove it down our throats" (pardon the pun). That is communism." (-M/M)

----------------------------

The explanation to this contradiction is quite simple: Politicians know all too well the money/contributions is a more powerful factor in getting reelected than mere popular support/opposition of a particular issue.

If big money donors (i.e. powerful interest groups) want a particular issue such as gay marriage to become law, then the power of their money is used to target and influence certain key politicians' votes.

Generally speaking, the main variable that factors into the typical politician's decision making calculations is money. Money invariably trumps fleeting public opinion - at least at the State and Federal level..

Bottomline, Money is the mothers milk of politics.....or, "He who owns the gold [campaign contributors] makes the rules."

John Gambling finally said on the air what I've been saying: What is the media's obsession with gay marriage? Noone cares and they keep putting it in all our faces.

What's the rationale for voting for this guy:

Washington (CNN) – In an interview after his presidential announcement Tuesday, former Utah governor and ambassador to China Jon Huntsman tried to downplay a letter he wrote to President Barack Obama in August 2009 calling him a “remarkable leader.”

Huntsman told Fox News that he was only alluding to the fact that the president would appoint a Republican to “a position as important and sensitive as the U.S. ambassadorship to China.”

“You are a remarkable leader,” Huntsman wrote in the note, which was leaked to reporters earlier this year. He underlined the word “remarkable.”

Asked if he was referring to the president’s policies with those kind words, Huntsman claimed that he wrote the letter “early in his administration.”

“There was nothing to comment on at that point,” Huntsman said.
