Natasha Richardson died. I feel SO sorry for her family. Her husband Liam was in some great movies, including one of the “Star Wars” movies (can’t remember which one).

I’m not as familiar with Natasha’s work as she spent much of her time acting on Broadway. The news stories were reporting how talented an actress Natasha was and I thought of how Fred was putting down all the shows on Broadway earlier this year.

Besides leaving behind a family of VERY famous actors, her two young sons who must be devastated.

That is one theory discussed on the blogs, but truthfully they may have flown her home because they knew there was no hope. Who wants to die in a foreign country when you could be surrounded at home by friends and family as she was?

Her death is so odd. I wish we could find out if she had a brain aneurysm before her fall. I fell on the ice while ice skating a few years ago and hit my head so hard that there was a lump. No more winter sports for me; I stick to the gym and the pool now.

By the way, went to visit my doctor recently and she is not recommending socialized medicine.

They keep telling us that the Bush Administration gave us the worst economy since the Great Depression, when actually the worst economy since the Great Depression occurred under Jimmy Carter. We had stagflation under Carter which included historic high interest rates, historic high inflation, and historic high unemployment. The lamestream media won't tell the American people about that little historical fact. Obama and Carter have a lot in common because they are both lame leaders who are far to the left. We are very close to stagflation again and I predict high interest rates and high inflation will return later this year along with our already high unemployment rates.

Who is next to visit the White House and advise Obama? The parade of leftwing clowns will continue for the next four years. And don't be surprised if Obama sets down with someone like Keith (Cho) Olbermann for a one on one lovefest.

Yikes - Jimmy Carter advising O'Bama. He'll probably tell B.O. to dispatch the helicopters to the Iranian desert to stop Iran's nuclear program.

SERIOSLY, THERE IS A TREND TO ALL OF OBAMA's DECISIONS, ACTIONS, AND GOVERNMENT APPOINTMENTS that brings to mind these quotes:

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.

For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no loner resist. A murderer is less to fear.”

The British National Health appears to be running amuck, almost like jihad-camps in Bucks County, but this time in Montreal.
(I heard that Neeson was able to move to the front of the line at the emergency room intake by donning a Border Patrol shirt. First he found one in french and nothing happened... so he donned one in english which sent american retirees looking for cheap prescriptions scurrying away..(hat tip to MJ))
Perhaps the Queens groundhog, UG, is selling socialized medicene short if indeed he has his facts straight (never a prerequisite for gringomen). Imagine, taking a spill on the slopes in Quebec, and opting for the UK first...
Maybe every item in the news needs a hook: Either socialists ot jihadists ruining life for white people. UG, I can't blame you for staying on the bottle.
MM, on the other hand, sees a doc who does not like socialised medicene. I'd say take it with a spoonfull of sugar but I'm not a MD.
So that seals it.
50 million americans and growing have no health insurance with the current employer based coverage. Let them die and decrease the surplus population.
Are there no prisons?
And the workhouses, are they still in operation?

Because, UG misses the entire point of this tragic affair... if you have money you can go anywhere.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within"

I agree. Any retired military officers appearing in a movie whih purports that the government itself was behind 911 and had military craft flown into the WTC should be at the very least stripped of their pensions.

" Marcus Tullius Cicero, Roman orator, statesmen 42 B.C"

I oft wondered how the Romans knew that Christ was to be born and constructed a calander that would move backwards toward that date. Ironically, after the fruition of that prediction the Romans began to systematically kill adherents.
It reminds me of the feux-patriotism seen in this republic whereby democratically elected leaders, past or present, are viewed as traitors because their ideologies are not linked to those who levy the charge.

INTERVIEW WITH HOMELAND SECURITY SECRETARY JANET NAPOLITANO
'Away From the Politics of Fear'

Janet Napolitano, 51, is President Obama's new Homeland Security Secretary. She spoke with SPIEGEL about immigration, the continued threat of terrorism and the changing tone in Washington.

SPIEGEL: Madame Secretary, in your first testimony to the US Congress as Homeland Security Secretary you never mentioned the word "terrorism." Does Islamist terrorism suddenly no longer pose a threat to your country?

Napolitano: Of course it does. I presume there is always a threat from terrorism. In my speech, although I did not use the word "terrorism," I referred to "man-caused" disasters. That is perhaps only a nuance, but it demonstrates that we want to move away from the politics of fear toward a policy of being prepared for all risks that can occur.

AP
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

SPIEGEL: This sounds quite different from what we heard from the Bush administration. How will the new anti-terror policy differ from the previous one?
Napolitano: Our policies will be guided by authoritative information. We also have assets at our disposal now that we did not have prior to 9/11. For example, we are much better able to keep track of travellers coming into the US than we were before. The third thing is to work with our international partners and allies to make sure that we are getting information and sharing information in an appropriate and real-time fashion.

SPIEGEL: This weekend you met in Berlin with six European Union interior ministers. What should Europeans expect of you and the Obama administration?

FROM THE MAGAZINE
Find out how you can reprint this DER SPIEGEL article in your publication.
Napolitano: Well, vis-à-vis working with me, what they can look forward to is a spirit of cooperation and coordination. Our approach will be not so much focused on protocol but on what steps each of us needs to accomplish to make our countries more secure.
SPIEGEL: What would you like to hear from your German counterpart, Interior Minister Wolfgang Schäuble?

Napolitano: The Bundestag (eds note: German parliament) soon has before it a vote to increase information-sharing, on criminal information, with us. This exchange is vital.

SPIEGEL: You would like the German authorities to share personal data of terrorism suspects, such as fingerprinting and DNA?

Napolitano: That is exactly right. We will also want to share some experiences with counter-radicalization, how the radicalization of young Muslims in our countries can be prevented.

SPIEGEL: Europe has a problem with just such people, young Muslims who grew up in the West and are still susceptible to radical messages. The terrorists responsible for the July 2005 attacks in London are an example.

Napolitano: In some ways, the problem in Europe is greater than in the United States. But the questions are the same. How do you identify a youth who is susceptible to becoming radicalized? How do you work with that youth, his family and community to give them alternatives to radicalization?

SPIEGEL: Would you characterize such social measures as a task of your agency?

Napolitano: Yes. In fact, we have group within my agency, the civil liberties group, and they have a focus right now on that issue.

His name should be the tip-off.

There seems to be a veritable alphebet soup of lawn-chair jihad-watchdogs. We got Buffalo's infamous Jihad Watch who recently missed a beheading right there in Buffalo, and now we have The Center for Jihad Investigations snooping at farmghouses from the air. It seems that CFJI really pushed the story of this "Islam is the Light" doll manufactured for Mattel toys. Now they are claiming that these same farmghouses which serve as a Mahattan Project developing hydrogen bombs, and koranic martial arts academies, are also distribution warehouses for the dolls.
Suburban pre-schoolers are reported to have an increased interest in Sinbad books, geometry, and crayon drawings of planes crashing into buildings. While at the same time communities surrounding these jihad-camps are experiencing full employment as thousands are needed in research, engineering, and construction of these atomic devices.

(Foxnews)In a dramatic reversal Wednesday, Sen. Chris Dodd confessed to adding language to a spending cap in the stimulus bill last month that specifically excluded executive bonuses included in contracts signed before the bill's passage.

Dodd, D-Conn., told FOX News that Treasury officials forced him to make the change.

"As many know, the administration was, among others, not happy with the language. They wanted some modifications to it," he said. "They came to us, our staff, and asked for changes, and the changes at the time did not seem that obnoxious or onerous."
------------------------------
We now know that Senator Dodd at the request of the Administration changed the stimulus bill to excluded restrictions on bonuses that were part of a contract. Unbelievable. The Administration and Senator Dodd and the Democrats who voted for this bill were willing to give stimulus money to people receiving bailout money and paying bonuses. What a pack of losers.

And the lamestream media asked why the Republicans didn't join Obama and vote for the stimulus bill, which they weren't even allowed to read.

BNP organiser arrested over harassment claim

The British National Party's regional organiser in the North-East has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment. Ken Booth, who lives in Fenham, Newcastle, was arrested yesterday by Northumbria Police and bailed pending further inquiries. Mr Booth’s arrest is understood to have followed a complaint made to police by a Muslim councillor in the city.

Mr Booth would not directly comment on his arrest when contacted by The Echo, but a spokesman for the party said it was an example of "politically correct Britain". He said: "The public can see what is happening and I am sure that in this particular instance we, as a party, have got nothing to fear. People in the North-East are sick and tired of this politically correct nonsense."

GEITHNER FALLS ON SWORD SAYS FORGIVE ME FOR I HAVE SINNED: (CNN) — Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told CNN Thursday his department asked Sen. Chris Dodd to include a loophole in the stimulus bill that allowed bailed-out insurance giant American International Group to keep its bonuses.

In an interview with CNN's Ali Velshi, Geithner said the Treasury Department was particularly concerned the government would face lawsuits if bonus contracts were breached.

Dodd admitted to CNN Thursday he'd added the controversial provision after a Treasury official pushed for it. Earlier in the week, Dodd had said he had not played any role in the addition of the loophole.

Obama's Attack on Medical Civil Liberties

http://www.citizenlink.org/content/A000009645.cfm

Candidate Barack Obama offered a compelling but formless message of hope and change. Many Americans desiring a new national direction filled his empty rhetorical vessels with their dreams and aspirations. It worked.

But now, obliged by his office, President Obama is giving those words definition and shape bewildering even some of his most ardent supporters.

While the media remain fixated on a slumping economy that gets sicker with each punishing presidential prescription, a different set of defining and similarly freedom-diminishing policy directives emerging from the White House goes dissimilarly unnoticed.

Earlier this month, the President took the first step in rescinding a Bush administration moral conscience regulation which enforces existing legal protections against discrimination and intimidation for doctors and other healthcare professionals who invoke conscience by refusing to participate in medical procedures they believe immoral.

The rule, which was finalized last year placed no restriction upon any legal medical procedure; it simply brought the executive branch into compliance with several existing laws including:

the 1973 "Church Amendments" which protect doctors and other healthcare professionals from discrimination due to religious belief or moral conviction;

the 1996 “Public Health Service Act Amendment” which prohibits government from discriminating against individual and institutional healthcare providers who choose not to provide abortion services or receive abortion training; and

the 2004 "Hyde-Weldon Amendment” which prohibits certain federal funds going to federal and state agencies and programs that discriminate against healthcare providers who decline to offer or refer abortion services.

Simply put, these three venerable laws passed by Congress and signed by former Presidents protect doctors and nurses from being professionally threatened because they allow their conscience to dictate their professional actions.

By eliminating the enforcement of these legal protections, the Obama Administration is signaling that it intends to ignore the law and refuse to protect the civil liberties of healthcare professionals based upon religious or moral conscience. Without enforcement, healthcare personnel will have scant legal recourse for intimidation and bigotry rendering the laws intended to protect them meaningless.

Former Bush Administration Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt said the conscience protection was absolutely necessary to confront a growing intolerance in the health field for “individual conscience, certain religious beliefs, ethnic and cultural traditions and moral convictions.”

Sister Carol Keehan, representing Catholic hospitals as president of the Catholic Health Association said, “We have seen a variety of efforts to force Catholic and other healthcare providers to perform or refer for abortions and sterilizations.''

Efforts to roll back freedom of conscience protections are only the latest in a series of aggressive actions that demonstrate intolerance for those whose conscience is convicted in support of a culture of life:

In the first month of his presidency, Obama reversed the established Mexico City policy that kept taxpayer money from being used by international organizations for abortions as a method of family planning protecting millions of American from paying for a procedure that they find morally objectionable.

Last week, the President unilaterally lifted embryonic-stem-cell research restrictions.

In the President’s recent healthcare summit, groups that support abortion were invited but pro-life groups with a stake in healthcare were excluded.

With the President’s support, Congress recently approved $50 million in funding for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). UNFPA is complicit in China's unspeakably cruel one-child enforcement policy, which employs forced abortion and sterilization.

The President’s nomination of Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius to be the new Secretary of Health and Human Services prompted George Weigel who leads Catholic Studies at the Ethics and Public Policy Center to question whether “conscience-rights protection for pro-life physicians and health-care workers [will] be sustained, amended, or eliminated.”

In February, the Administration decided that it would no longer extend hiring protections to faith-based organizations but would instead review on a “case-by-case basis.

The last Congress passed federal funding for embryonic-stem-cell research without hearings in either the House or the Senate, closed the bill to all markups, and bypassed the committee process entirely, we expect the same closed process in this Congress.

Yet, the most hostile assault against the civil liberties in the medical profession may be yet to come.

In 2007, Obama promised a Planned Parenthood gathering on the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade that, as president, he would sign the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). If enacted, FOCA would repeal all federal and state restrictions on abortion including the ban on partial-birth abortion. FOCA would force all public hospitals and health programs offering maternity services to provide abortions. Moreover, provisions in state constitutions that protect speech and the free exercise of religion of those whose conscience is opposed to abortion could be invalidated.

Having no reason to believe that President Obama will not fulfill this radical campaign pledge, some Catholic bishops are talking openly about engaging in civil disobedience to protect Catholic hospitals and their doctors from being forced to perform abortions.

The chilling effect of the Obama administration forcing doctors and nurses to choose between their losing their careers and being compelled to participate in abortions against their moral and religious belief is incalculable. Not only will pro-life doctors and nurses be driven from the professions, but patients will lose the ability to choose doctors who reflect their own religious and moral convictions, doctors who now help them to make healthcare choices based upon them.

The fact is, there are doctors and nurses who have no moral objection to abortion. Why then, should some medical professionals be compelled to do something that compromises their conscience? It is one thing to hold fast to the pro-abortion position as a matter of a personal opinion, it is quite another to force someone else to compromise their moral integrity.

Now the clock is ticking on the thirty-day review and public feedback period where public opinion might change the administration’s direction toward religious freedom. Let’s hope.

Acornbert,

How many of the 50 million uninsured are illegals? The cost of government health care is enormous, but what is another trillion dollars that will be added to our national deficit. We CAN always print more money and create an inflationary environment.

So, if we have universal health care, will corporations eliminate that benefit, making the government the sole provider of our health care? Judging on how the government is performing with the economy, the stimulus package, and AIG, I DON’T want these people in charge of my health care.

From hearing what I hear universal health care is like in other countries, it is inferior to what we have now. Perhaps we should explore solutions that improve our current system, rather than screwing up our existing system.

There are Republican alternatives that create more of a free market solution. I don’t have time to go over it now, but perhaps you should explore other options.

By the way, I have heard other doctors who are skeptical of socialized medicine.

President Barack Obama and his West Wing lieutenants are playing on the world's largest stage, yet act as if no one is watching them when they contradict their campaign promises. That behavior is unwittingly giving the Republicans an opening.

For example, Team Obama thinks the president, having spent a good portion of the campaign decrying the $2.9 trillion in deficits during the Bush years, can now double the national debt held by the public in 10 years. Having condemned earmarks during the campaign, the Obama administration now believes it can wave through 8,500 of them in the omnibus-spending bill, part of the biggest spending increase since World War II.

probably these docs keep a capital "R" to the right of their name.

Employer based health insurance costs are growing at some 15%/yr, meaning that the cost of insurance is being shifted to employees (regardless of legal status). The result is that a growing number of people are falling out of the system and are uninsured.
This execerbates the problem of cost as the insured ultimatly bear the cost of the enterprise.
A persons immigration ststus seems irrelevent to the issue of comparing costs between a insurance based vs single payer system. Under BOTH systems there are nonrenumerative costs associated with giving care to people who do not pay.
Under the present private insurance system the debt is not differentiaited between legal or illegal status. The hospital sells the debt to a collection agency.
Here though is the insideous part: The retail cost of a medical procedure is twice as high as a contracted HMO rate. One goes for a checkup and the the doc charges $100, but if you have Blue Cross, you pay $10 and Blue Cross pays $40. If the uninsured patient doesn't pay the doc sells the $100 debt to a collection agency for $50.

Under a single payer system there is no insurance company. One is either in or not in the system. Those not covered (presumably because of ststus) are subject to the same sanction by the provider.

Finally, I do not know of a study linking uncollected debt to immigration ststus but I do know this: Most docs will perform treatment based on medical necessity without respect to a persons ability to pay.
This is comforting to know when one travels abroad or even out of state and an unforseen medical emergency arises.

The Obama Administration decide to not to go ahead with their plans for Wounded Veterans Medical needs. President Obama will not pursue a proposal that would have allowed the VA to charge private insurance companies for the treatment of veterans with service- and war-related injuries, read more here. That was a REAL FLEA BRAINED IDEA.
