"Whatever happened to the modern followers of my free-market opponents?” Marx would likely wonder.

At first glance, anyone who understands economics can see that there is something wrong with this picture. The taxes that will need to be levied to finance this package may keep some firms alive, but they will siphon off capital, kill jobs and make businesses less productive elsewhere. Increasing the money supply is no different. It is an invisible tax that redistributes resources to debtors and those who made unwise investments.
So why throw this sound free-market analysis overboard as soon as there is some downturn in the markets?"

Posted by: M/M | October 01, 2008 at 06:29 AM

M/M,

That is an excellent post, which is why I posted it previously as

KARL MARX COMES TO WASHINGTON

But what I didn't do previously is offer a possible answer to the question: Why is Washington now ready to throw the Free Market overboard in favor of "fiscal socialism?"

Few are hinting at the possible answer. We know what the venal Democrats want: bail-out for their Goldman-Sachs cronies et al and cover-up for their thugs and deviants who created the mortgage fraud Frankenstein. This monumental debacle will also be very useful in further enslaving taxpayers to Big Government, i.e. Socialism.

The Democratic bums and crooks are totally transparent.

But how to explain the (non-rebel) Republicans? Why is George Bush such an obvious "fiscal socialist"? Republicans, at best, had only a minor role in the gigantic mortgage fraud. They are on record as constantly trying to reform it away from the approaching abyss, while constantly beaten back by the Dem thugs and crooks. (As the video linked above shows dramatically.)

Yes, George Bush might be hustled by his Treasury Sec Henry Paulsen, a Democrat in Wall Street clothing and he is friends with such defenders of fraud as Barney Frank.
That might explain why they are intent on rescuing the knaves and thieves on the backs of US taxpayers.

But how to explain John McCain? He seems willing to support this epic mugging of responsible Americans.
While wanting their votes!

Can he be such an embarrassing idiot?

Or is there another answer that he and others won't mention?

This is all about debt and how to pay it off. The US is now the greatest debtor nation in history.

And who is now the chief creditor?

China, of course.

But Bush and McCain could not tell Americans that they are submitting to "fiscal socialism" because the Chinese demand debt servicing or else. That would not play in the election, would it? It's the dirty little globalista secret. China is now an enormous factor in US stability.

McCain, if he has bought into this bailout, would see it as the "responsible" thing to do. Instead of letting Sarah Palin run wild over the Democratic thieves and really telling the Obamasuck Media to shove it, he keeps the lid on both herself and himself. He knows how the American people would listen to her even more than to him, and how they'd swat away the Obamasuck "gotchas" against her like flies. Obamasuck is able to demean her because McCain will not let her go after them like she knows how. She's hunted wolves and moose and caribou. She understands the Obamasuck innately in ways the Wellsley gals do not even imagine. But McCain believes he can't afford such a populist explosion. He does worry about the elite reaction. So his team tamps Palin down (in effect dumbs her down) with talking points that only play into the media game which is all about little hacks searching for "gotcha" against whoever they want to destroy. They make her play the conventional game instead of kicking butt like she could and would.

In effect, McCain submits both to the Democrats and Beijing. He honestly believes it is the only thing to do. And so he's willing to risk the Election for it.

He likes Sarah Palin, but in a way he's also afraid of her. He realizes what she could do unleashed. Obamasuck Media would be helpless against it, as they felt the national pulse siding with her, and its utter contempt for the media hacks.

The socialist circle has now come fully around. Wall Street and the Democratic social engineers are now tied fatefully to free-wheeling Communist China. McCain, now an "establishment" guy despite the maverick label, sees no way out and may honestly think that taxpayers will be hurt more by refusing to submit to the new Wall Street/Dem socialist/Globalista axis. He probably truly believes that American taxpayers have no real choice; they must submit and pay for the bail-out of Wall Street. The alternative is economic anarchy. Either (1)he is correct or (2)he's been hustled and rolled.

So now he goes to Washington where he and Little Barry will bless the sell-out. Bipartisan nicey-nice. While most Americans are ready to puke.

All this while the great Obamascam fires up its minions and media hacks, and smirks confidentally about the socialist future.

J. Pierpont Finch

As if government crony political appoints did not do enough damage at FANNIE MAE and FREDDIE MAC, George Soros now swoops in leading the charge for converting our capitalist system to SOCIALISM (where government owns, controls and manages the means of a country's production).

9/30/08: SOROS FOR SOCIALISM: Proposes alternative bank rescue plan for Democrats should provide that government funds be used to recapitalize American banking system by purchasing equity in banks & investment firms

http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/soros-floats-alternative-bailout-plan-with-dems-2008-09-30.html

I truly believe we are living though a deliberty created financial crisis to change America into the Socialist States of America.

I predict massive voting fraud led by ACORN and its affiliates to result in a puppet Obama regime whose strings are pulled by powerful international socialist-communists like George Soros.

I believe we are helpless to stop this revolution.

I predict that shortly after Obama's election, the socalled "Fairness Doctrine" will be revived and overwhelmingly passed by a Democrat controllled congress. Conservative talk radio together with dissent will be labelled "hate speech" and totally banned. The government police will shut down websites like this, or, monitor them closely to go after disidents.

All of our economic difficulties will be blamed on conservatives and republicans and "Wall Street".

We will drink more an more to drown our pain from the coming inevitable economiic fallout from the above misguided new policies and lies.

MCCAIN THROWS PALIN TO OBAMASUCK WOLVES

More examples of how Team McCain has decided to get Sarah Palin to "tone it down."

They severely limit her going on a "natural" for her: Talk Radio.

For her Mainstream Exposure, after Charley Gibson's pompous fake-English professorial nonsense, wherein elite gasbags get to "intimidate" the hoi polloi (a game that's been laughed out of England long ago, and only naive Americans seem impressed by it)Team MacCain tosses Sarah Palin to CBS (repeatedly) and the smiling, cutesy little shark, Katey Couric.

She is now slated for elite ridicule because she failed to name a single Supreme Court case for Couric. In other words, she is being depicted as a typical product of liberal Government schools, instead of what she actually is: an exceptionally bright and accomplished woman and quick study who could throw 15 different court cases at Katey Kourva if she knew that's the kind of "quiz" they want to score her on, while they give Obama's VP Joe "Gaffe-a-minute" Biden a free pass. But Obamasuck Media will rate her as a dunce in their little "gotcha" quiz, while the rest of the yuppies will do the Obamasuck Echo Chamber on Palin's "inadequacy."

Michelle Malkin now reports on the latest example. The VP debate tomorrow will be moderated by a leading member of the Obamasuck media flacks: the "proud black woman," Gwen Ifil, who is even coming out with an adoring book on The One, (scheduled for publication on Inauguration Day next year!)

Michelle Malkin comments:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
During the Republican National Convention, the PBS ombudsman fielded numerous complaints about Ifill's coverage of Sarah Palin's speech. Wrote Brian Meyers of Granby, Conn.:

"I was appalled by Gwen Ifill's commentary directly following Gov. Sarah Palin's speech. Her attitude was dismissive, and the look on her face was one of disgust. Clearly, she was agitated by what most critics view as a well-delivered speech. It is quite obvious that Ms. Ifill supports Obama, as she struggled to say anything redemptive about Gov. Palin's performance. I am disappointed in Ms. Ifill's complete disregard for journalistic objectivity."

Like Obama, Ifill, who is black, is quick to play the race card at the first sign of criticism. In an interview with the Washington Post a few weeks ago, she carped: "No one's ever assumed a white reporter can't cover a white candidate."

It's not the color of your skin, sweetie. It's the color of your politics.

Perhaps Ifill will be able to conceal it this week. But if the "stunning" "Breakthrough" she's rooting for comes to pass on Jan. 20, 2009, nobody will be fooled. During the Republican National Convention, the PBS ombudsman fielded numerous complaints about Ifill's coverage of Sarah Palin's speech.

BAILOUT: JUST A MISLEADING COP-OUT?

gringoNote: Washington prepares to scare and stampede the herd (American taxpayers) while Obama and Bi-partisan Johnny converge on Washington again to bless the (choose one) Rescue Package? Bail-out? Cop-Out? Sell-out? Bi-partisan Johnny denounces any attempt to look at the why of this catastrophe. He says the 'why' is for later. For now, he says, let's do Bail-out. He will not expose the Obama-supporting criminals who brought on the catastrophe. Bipartisan Johnny calls this "responsible." He thinks this is the way to run against the Obamascam. He even seems to think voters will agree, as he helps yoke them to the socialist behemoth....

Sometimes a Brit can see the US more clearly. Here is one from the UK Telegraph on the crisis.....

Why propping up banks will not rescue a debauched financial system
Confession time. As 228 Representatives in Congress voted against Hank Paulson’s bail-out plan on Monday, I was cheering them on.

By Jeff Randall
Last Updated: 4:28PM BST 01 Oct 2008

At last, there were public figures prepared to reject the political and financial blackmail of a debased White House-Wall Street elite.

This is an unfashionable view; it runs counter to The Daily Telegraph’s editorial line. But the hard-sell of President Bush and the US Treasury Secretary felt too much like the pressure patter of a door-to-door hawker. Their message was crude: “Trust us. You are in a terrible place. Only we can get you out of this mess. No need to check the details. Hurry now, or it will be too late. Here’s a pen. There’s the dotted line. Just sign.”

But with the President’s ratings so low, few would let him leave the House with anything more than small change. Congress asked, not unreasonably: “If you guys know so much about banking, how come we are in such trouble?”

Gringoman is (reduced to) writing a manifesto:

"McCain, if he has bought into this bailout, would see it as the "responsible" thing to do. Ummahgummah

Pseudobro really hates Sarah!

She's a threat just like Gringobro is a threat to him.

Gringobro subtly appropriates ethnic signifiers, turning them inside out to expose ossified aspects of mainstream African-American political thought.

The reactions to Gringobro are in fact way more telling than anything Gringobro could say on his own.

It is to Gringobro's particular credit that he is able to extract these very telling reactions to his brilliantly constructed simulacrum of the Ebonic Other.

Thus truths are unearthed which would otherwise go unspoken, forever silenced by the dictates of political correctness.

However when they are spoke by members of their own group we can all listen in and draw our own conclusions.

Thank you, Gringobro for doing such valuable Community Service!

Ummahgummah

The way that Pseudobro has been trashing Sarah on this blog mirrors the way that Gwen Awful and others of her ilk have been trashing her.

We must liberate our own minds to read the subtext here and then vote accordingly.

PC bullying shall be given no pass.

GilbertWashington

Perhaps Ms Palin will be asked to comment on a recent Supreme Court decision, or perhaps understand the mechanics of a defense treaty, or maybe expound on a geopolitical policy?

Perhaps in Tontobobo world an answer isn't even required.

Ummahgummah

Perhaps Gwen Awful should be removed from the debate panel since she is OBVIOUSLY and proven to be BIASED toward the liberal HUSSEIN Osabama.

GilbertWashington

UG sounds particularly idiotic this afternoon:

"Perhaps Gwen Awful should be removed from the debate panel since she is OBVIOUSLY and proven to be BIASED toward the liberal HUSSEIN Osabama"

Gov. Palin and Sen Biden will each be asked the same question.
The question will probably require an answer.

That's bias!

GilbertWashington

UG wants voters to be unshackled:

"We must liberate our own minds to read the subtext here and then vote accordingly"

An alternative to Ug's new age prescriptions would be to ascertain where candidates stand on the issues and the liklihood of proposing sound public policy.

Although in UG's case a dose of mental liberation would be in order. Pay down those credit cards, they are killing you.

Ummahgummah

The FOOL ain't foolin' Ummahbro. The questions can be slanted toward a particular interest group or party.

The fact remains that there is amore than an appearance of favoritism and bias here.

Talk about FAIRNESS doctrine.

When things favor the LIEberals, which is 90% of the time, there is no mention of Fairness.

It's simply the accepted Status Quo.

Well, it's time for Republicans to STOP accepting!

By the way, has anyone ever done a breakdown of taxes paid vs. services received by party affiliation and voting record?

I'd venture a bet that those on the Dhimmicrat side have received more than they have contributed to the public trough.

That;s completely unscientific on my part and I'd be interested to hear if there is any reliable data either supporting or refuting my theory.

PS. Things like mortgage subsidies and Section 8 have to be included to make any such study substantial.

GilbertWashington

Ug is trying hard to find me out:

"The FOOL ain't foolin' Ummahbro. The questions can be slanted toward a particular interest group or party. "

Yes. Q. Gov Palin, Sen Biden, when did you stop beating your wife?

Michael Avari

Here is the full text of the 451 page bill on which the Senate will vote this evening.

http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/senatebillAYO08C32_xml.pdf

I haven't read the entire document, but here are some highlights:

- athorization to buy 'troubled assets'
- new Office of Financial Stability within the Dept. of Treasury, comprising the same characters -- Sec'y. of Tresury, Fed chairman, SEC chairman, Sec'y. of HUD
- continuation of rental subsidies (!)
- Extension of Rules For Qualified Film and Television Production (really!)
- Exemption from Excise Tax for Certain Wooden Arrows Designed for Use by Children (no kidding! Title V, Sec 503)
- The ‘‘Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008’’ (oh yes, Paul and Pete team up on this one)
- an extension to the 'fix' for the Alternative Minimum Tax (more about this later)
- the insurance proposal the Republicans wanted, which will take more money away from banks
- funding for the program by selling US debt, thus raising the national debt, meaning a lot of the money will likely come from overseas ...

Four hundred fifty-one pages!

And John McCain intends to vote how?

Ummahgummah

There should be a law that requires a "cooling-off period" before any substantial legislation can be passed.

There is simply not enough time for qualified review and debate, regardless of what side one might be take on this issue.

This legislation is pulling the wool over the working taxpayers' eyes who rely on their various news sources for analysis and opinion.

I wonder.. did they remove the ACORN funding part of this bill?

Best regards,

Michael Avari

Here is Newt:

1) Fire Paulson
2) Suspend mark-to-market accounting

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=28818

to which I add:

3) Lend banks money -- don't buy their assets -- for options not warrants;
4) Authorize the Fed to expand money supply, not contract it by issuing more more debt
5) Elimnate capital gains and dividend taxes immediately.

Regards,

Ummahgummah

The FOOL says someone is trying hard to "figure him out" when in fact the verdict has long been passed.

Witness the subject's ridiculous proposal for an "unbiased" question.

If Thugbert does in fact collect checks for being such a hard-working smear merchant, does anyone monitor his output? They can't produce a better class of drivel? Is this the best they can afford---incoherent Black Nationalist bilge calling itself 'Republican.'?

It's so disappointing. Even a fractional-reserve mind is a terrible thing to waste. The ACORN/ Fannie & Freddie muggers in Washington surely could budget something better.

I suspect that even Ummah, who is keenly aware of what lurks in liberal swampland, expects better.

Ummahbro,

Your analysis of Gringobro was too insightful for Pseudobro. But that's to be expected from he who smears a Vietnam vet who's had more bylines in a big NY newspaper than Pseudobro Thugbert appears to have brain cells.

Here is a previous gringomanic that may relate to your point above and the matter of who feeds at the taxpayers' trough. Everybody knows----

NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION.

Recently I introduced something very politically incorrect that should be---and probably will not be---in the national debate. It asks if there should or should not be the following.

REPRESENTATION WITHOUT TAXATION.

The above obviously exists, and on a massive scale. And watch how the libs and lefties scramble away from a debate or any frank and honest discussion of it.

Can you imagine Pseudobro talking straight about it---even if he had the elemental honesty and capacity?

Ummahgummah

Gringoman, I wouldn't mind at all living under a system of your property determining your amount of votes.

Plus, when I heard how they are carting the homeless to register in Ohio I was ready to throw up.

Obviously the bums are going to vote themselves FREE MONEY.

Where does that FREE MONEY come from?

Us.

GilbertWashington

Gringoman and UG would leave the decidin' to their landlords:

"Gringoman, I wouldn't mind at all living under a system of your property determining your amount of votes."

Gringoman then could own a plantation full of slaves and vote all day long.

And you UG, if you took out a morgtgage on your house, you banker could use your vote until the house is paid off!
Then you could keep bitchhing about the world and be freed of a responsibility of dealing with it; like Yoyo-man!

Mouse ears, or is that a wingnut on your head?

GilbertWashington

UG sees a lotto inspired cash-cow for Ohio homeless:

"Obviously the bums are going to vote themselves FREE MONEY.

Where does that FREE MONEY come from?"

For awhile UG thought that free-loot came courtesy of Mastercard. Bummer.

Have you tried welfare?

Put a few Dems in office and you can vote some dinero brought right to your door by a uniformed agent of the federal government.

JPierpontFinch sees advent of thought police in an inevitable Obama victory:

" believe we are helpless to stop this revolution.

Perhaps much like the colony of Miami Cubans will spring a new colony of Toronto Americans. Others in Cuba learned to re-orient themselves.

For all the dissing of a biased american media one would think that Republicans would welcome a ressurected Fairness Doctrine to counter a growing (mis?)perception of "hate radio".
By "monitoring of dissadents on this website" I think you mean the police keeping an eye on fascistas, the ones who say that ownership is a pre-condition to voting.
Not only would I endorse this view I would hope that the nouveau-regime could find a spot on the wall to honor their contributions to mankind.

Conservative-friendly media better get ready. Should Barack Obama win the presidency and the Democrats control Congress, as now seems likely, they will launch a full-scale war to drive critics — especially on political talk radio — right out of legitimate public debate.

Signs of what the new environment will be like for the right are already evident:

• When the National Rifle Association recently released television and radio ads in Pennsylvania targeting Obama's history of anti-gun votes, the Obama campaign's general counsel fired off bullying letters to stations that ran the spots, implying that they may have violated public-interest obligations.

• When the 527 group, the American Issues Project, came out with a commercial linking Obama to former Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers, the campaign (unsuccessfully) complained to the Department of Justice that AIP had broken campaign finance laws, and managed to spook some stations away from the ad.

• When two different conservative writers looking into Obama's background appeared on Chicago's WGN-AM Radio, the campaign's "action wire" energized its activists to bombard the station with rage-filled phone calls and e-mails, making the program more difficult to conduct.

(The show, hosted by the eminently reasonable Milt Rosenberg, had on both occasions invited the Obama campaign to send a representative to respond; the campaign preferred to answer with digital brownshirts.)

These crude efforts are only a start.

A Democrat-controlled Washington will use sweeping new rules to shush conservative political speech. For starters, expect a real push to bring back the Fairness Doctrine.

True, Obama says he isn't in favor of re-imposing this regulation, which, until Ronald Reagan's FCC junked it in the '80s, required broadcasters to give airtime to opposing viewpoints or face fines or even loss of license. But most top Democrats, including Nancy Pelosi, are revved up about the idea, and it's hard to imagine Obama vetoing a new doctrine if Congress delivers him one.

Make no mistake: a new Fairness Doctrine would vaporize political talk radio, the one major medium dominated by the right. If a station ran a successful conservative program like, say, Mark Levin's, it would also have to run a left-leaning alternative, even if — as with Air America and all other liberal efforts in the medium to date — it can't find any listeners or sponsors.

Then there are all the lawyers you'd have to hire to fend off the government regulators. Too much hassle, many radio executives would conclude; better switch to entertainment coverage or some other anodyne format. In 1980, it's worth recalling, talk shows of any kind numbered fewer than 100 nationwide, not thousands like today.

And Obama does say he wants to tighten media ownership regulations and expand the public interest duties of broadcasters, including by imposing greater "local accountability" on them — that is, forcing stations to carry more local programming, even if the public isn't demanding it (which it isn't).

This measure — aimed at national syndicators like Salem Radio that make conservative shows available from coast to coast — is just a sneakier way of shrinking the listenership of hosts like William Bennett or Hugh Hewitt, or even getting them off the air altogether.

Obama, like congressional Democrats, also wants to regulate the Internet, the only other medium in which the right does well, via its influential bloggers.

The means here: something called "network neutrality." Neutrality, if enacted, would give government overseers at the FCC the power to ensure that Internet providers treated equally all the information bits surging across the Web's "pipes" — its cables, fiber optics, phone lines and wireless connections.

This measure makes zero economic sense. Broadband providers want to manage more actively — and thus profitably — those information bits. They'd like to offer, for instance, new superfast delivery for sites or users willing to pay more (not unlike how FedEx speeds delivery of packages for a fee), or other new services such as online video or telephony.

Network neutrality would render all that illegal. But why, then, should broadband investors keep building the Web infrastructure needed to keep pace with surging use? Where's their financial incentive?

Yet if that infrastructure isn't in place soon, the vast amount of data pouring online will begin to slow the Web to a crawl, many experts believe. Needless to say, neutrality also will be a gold mine to telecom lawyers, who'll have their hands full figuring out what constitutes "digital discrimination."

But the biggest potential danger of neutrality is that its concern for equal treatment of bits will extend to sites' content, creating a kind of Fairness Doctrine for the Web, as FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell has warned — and as Obama adviser and law professor Cass Sunstein once called for.

Not coincidentally, hampering the alternative media with new regulations would leave the liberal mainstream press, which still enjoys full First Amendment protections, comparatively empowered.

Given how the "MSM" has covered this presidential race — fawning over Obama and pummeling John McCain and especially his charismatic running mate Sarah Palin at every opportunity — it's easy to see why many liberals may be hoping for a media restoration.
