Barack Obama cannot be serious.

CNN is reporting today that there are ongoing talks between the Clinton camp (read: Bill) and the Obama camp (read: Michelle) about getting Hillary on the ticket. There is, no doubt, a lot of Clintonian extortion happening: promises of riots at the Convention, telling women not to support Obama if he doesn't bend to their demands, horses' heads in their beds.

The talks are described by someone involved as "difficult." Horses' heads do have a tendency to make negotiations "difficult."

Obama, apparently, is thinking about it. Which leads me to believe he's either A) easily intimidated; B) stupid; or C) very, very careful.

He cannot be seen to be blowing her off. Even if he has no intention of putting her on the ticket, he's got to be seen as considerate to her and her army of delegates. But the last thing he wants is Bill Clinton shadowing him for 4 years and Hillary planning the palace coup on Day One.

So, these "talks" may involve a facesaving way for her to get out: that he offers it to her, she declines, the party is unified, and end of story.

But. What if they make that deal, but when he offers it to her, she takes it? That would be a double cross of Clintonian caliber: dirty, underhanded, and genius.

If I were Obama, I'd get it in writing.

Monica is totally wrong.

As I've said before on this blog, an Obama/Clinton ticket is the best hope the Democrats have to win. Putting Clinton on the tickets ensures that Clinton supporters will vote Democratic rather than being tempted by McCain, who many Clinton supporters prefer to Obama.

A V.P. only has as much power as a President allows. Bill Clinton will be available for advice but he doesn't exactly have a free pass into another President's office.

Remember: Johnson hated Kennedy and thought he was a smart-a** kid, and that he (Johnson) was entitled to the presidency. But he got on the ticket because you can't accomplish anything unless you win first.

People forget that the Bush people and Reagan people were adversaries. Reagan and Bush were not exactly lovers. But they joined together and won.

So Monica might want to reconsider her analysis -- which is totally and utterly incorrect.

What is different is Barry's lack of experience. One could compare him to Franklin Pierce. No doubt Hillary has more influence today than Barry in political circles, and unless he fights this trend, he will be following along, rather than leading.

He could do a Bush I thing, and choose someone like Dan Quayle for VP. Who would that be in the Democratic party? Maybe he could choose himself. Can a man be his own VP? How about Michelle for VP? That would one better Clinton!
Barry could consult the playbook and tell everyone, "With me, you get Michelle also."

And I don't think Hillary wants to play second fiddle to anyone. I can't see her stooping to the VP slot. She wants to be QueenBee or nothing. So I think there is no chance whatsoever that there will ever be an Obama/Clinton ticket.
